Summary

The Michigan Medicine Adult Diabetes Education Program and MEND clinic are seeking a Patient Services Intermediate to assist with managing and processing diabetes durable medical orders.

Responsibilities*

  • Manage and maintain new, upgrade and supply diabetes durable medical orders in a timely manner utilizing MiChart
  • Communicate clearly with patients, providers and DME companies as to the status of DME orders and provide documentation in MiChart
  • Work with patients, DMEs and device manufacturers to ensure patients receive ordered devices
  • Ensure all insurance criteria are met, documented, and provided to the durable medical company to complete orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Process denials and appeals for DME orders
  • Monitor and utilize the fax server to process requests for DME information and documentation.
  • Monitor and utilize the inbasket to process requests and follow up for DME orders.
  • Collaborate with DME vendors to stay up to date on new products and associated insurance requirements/patient eligibility.
  • Communicate the results of each order with the patient and provider as well as providing updates as to the status of each order throughout the process.

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED)
  • 3-4 years of experience
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Prior experience performing complex scheduling.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary clinical setting.  
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance
  • Expected to be proficient in identifying problems, seeking and implementing solutions
  • Able to spell correctly and use proper grammar
  • Able to work in a fast paced, customer friendly environment 
  • Prior authorization experience for healthcare patients
  • Experience working within a large complex healthcare setting
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems
  • Knowledge of UMHS policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in Michigan Medicine Computer programs including MiChart and Microsoft Outlook
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Able to learn new computer software and programs
  • Must work well with minimal supervision
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Able to work effectively both individually and as part of a team
  • Effective interpersonal skills including a positive attitude and excellent conflict management skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous experience working in diabetes care
  • Experience with insulin pumps and CGMs
  • Experience working with insurance
  • Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policies and procedures

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
