ABOUT THE ROLE
Under the direction of designated project leadership, the successful candidate will be responsible for analysis and design of structural systems/components in steel, concrete and masonry and an integral part of design teams within CannonDesign.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Lead structural engineering design on multiple projects.
  • May assume a lead project engineering role on large-scale projects.
  • Communicate effectively with construction staff, designers, architects, engineers, owners at all levels.
  • Identify life safety code requirements and apply knowledge.
  • Use Revit to develop BIM models for producing Contract Documents. Supervise staff assisting in preparation of documents.
  • Lead less experienced staff in preparation of comprehensive structural design.
  • Work with architectural staff developing exterior wall support details.
  • Perform complex structural calculations and custom detailing.
  • Define project budget and scope.
  • Perform site observations requiring a physical walk through of site.
  • Handle all aspects of the construction phase, including reviewing shop drawings and calculations, responding to RFIs and field issues, and participating in construction meetings.
  • Participate in presentations.
  • Must be willing to perform overtime work and travel.
  • Represents company in project activities; directs activities of project team members; represents company in business development and marketing activities. May serve on internal and/or professional committees.
  • May perform other duties as required.
ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor in Civil Engineering with Structural focus, Bachelor in Structural Engineering or Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (Structural emphasis) from an ABET accredited program. Master in Civil Engineering with Structural focus, Master in Structural Engineering or Master of Architectural Engineering (Structural emphasis) from an ABET accredited program is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience required.
  • Current PE and/or SE in the United States required.
  • LEED AP is preferred.
  • Ability to lead structural engineering design on multiple projects.
  • Experience with concrete and steel required.
  • Ability to Lead less experienced staff in preparation of comprehensive structural design.
  • Ability to serve in the QAQC process and an independent reviewer.
  • Knowledge of IBC and other national standard codes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Communicate effectively with construction staff, designers, architects, engineers, owners at all levels.
  • Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs (i.e. Revit, RAM, RISA) required.
The salary range for this position to be filled in the San Diego, CA office is $112,000 to $140,000 annually. This salary range is the range we believe is the anticipated range of possible base compensation at the timing of the posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the anticipated salary range for the position. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
