General Description
The Department of Computer Technologies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Networking for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The Computer Technologies Department includes various degrees and certificates in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Network Technology, and Web & Application Development. The department strives to meet the needs of all students interested in obtaining an education in these areas and is focused on preparing diverse cohorts of IT specialists, software engineers, and computer scientists for successful careers. Many of our students transfer to some of the best computing programs in the Philadelphia area, while others move directly into new jobs or progress in their current career paths.

Full-time Faculty facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes, using each course’s standard course outline as a guide. Networking faculty at CCP teach networking courses involving Microsoft and Cisco related platforms and operating systems, and other computer technology courses for which qualified to teach including cyber security. Faculty will implement or create labs and instruct students in the creation, performance and understanding of concepts related to course student learning outcomes in the following areas:
Network attacks and virus characteristics.
Network Cabling Media (BaseT, Cat5, Fiber, etc.)
Network Protocols, Ports and Services (i.e., TCP/IP, TFTP, DNS, DHCP, ICMP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP and VoiP).
Utilize network addressing (MAC, 1Pv4, 1Pv6).
Configuration of File Servers, Proxy and Print Servers.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel).
Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance.
Network Security concepts (IDS, IPS, SSH, Encryption, Steganography)
Logical, Physical and Wireless Topologies.
Network Design and Devices (i.e., DMZ, IDF, MDF, Demarc, Hubs, Switches, Routers, Bridges, etc.)
Number Conversions (Decimal-Octet-Binary-Hexadecimal).
OSI and TCP/IP Models.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Become expert in curricula and other course materials, prepare lectures, hands-on activities, and presentations for effective teaching.
  • Help community college students further develop their technical knowledge and skills, professional attitudes and behaviors, for college and workplace success.
  • Maintain and develop curriculum that are consistent with departmental learning objectives.
  • Work with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards, and policies, including reviewing and participating in textbook selection process where appropriate.
  • Assign grades and maintain course / student records in accordance with FERPA regulations and submit grades and records by established deadlines.
  • Proactively identify/address student problems.
  • Meet all classes and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated times. Be available to students via email, phone, or personal conferences. The method of contact and hours of availability should be clearly communicated to supervisors and to students through the course syllabus each semester.
  • Commitment to participating in the intellectual life of the department, and a willingness to participate in the life of the College through leadership in department and college-wide committees. Active participation in industry related professional development activities, meetings, and/or conferences.
  • Receive training or stay current in technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning, including learning and using Publisher’s software when applicable.
  • Attend required trainings and facilitate student engagement on learning management systems.
  • Establish, maintain and implement a system to effectively attract and retain students for the Cybersecurity and Networking degree programs from the Greater Philadelphia region.
  • Develop and implement student retention related activities, participate in articulation with four-year schools and outreach with area high schools.
  • Participate in department advisory committee(s) to help fill the needs of area employers by creating lasting relationships that facilitate student and graduate employment opportunities. Develop and maintain working relationships with Philadelphia’s tech industry/workforce.
  • Engage in scholarly activities related to professional development and acquisition of skills related to industry.
  • Participate in grant work opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a sense of connection and responsibility for helping the College to achieve success through a commitment to its mission, vision, and values.
  • Actively participate in the academic life of the College; including participation in graduation, recruitment events, general assemblies, student life activities and other cross functional teams. Create learning opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom including opportunities to teach dual-enrollment high school students.
  • Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences and foster collaboration. Work with and inspire others to achieve college, department, and individual success. Proactively identify/address problems.
  • Establish an inclusive environment in the classroom. Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College’s faculty, staff and students.
  • Full participation in the assessment of student learning and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institution levels.
  • Strive for excellence in teaching, applying best practices in field of discipline, and modeling behaviors that encourage student success and retention. Utilize innovative teaching strategies and technologies for online learning and other technology tools to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population. Maintain office hours to meet with students outside of the classroom and respond to questions or concerns.
  • Commitment to professional learning and growth, student mentoring, and service to the profession. Remain current in the use of technology, developments within the field of discipline, and developments related to teaching and student success.

Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Information Systems, Network Technology or closely related field. Any and all degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor.
  • Any combination of the following certifications: MCSA, MCSE, MCITP, MTA, CCENT, CEH, Network+, Security+ or CCNA with a current transcript on file with Microsoft, CompTIA, or Cisco.
  • Two or more years of network technology experience with Routers, Switches and Servers and Computers.
  • Two or more years of years of full or part time teaching experience in the field of computer and network technology at the High School, Career Training School, college or university level.
  • Knowledge of network and cybersecurity trends, network attacks and virus characteristics, and network protocols, ports and services (i.e., TCP/IP, TFTP, DNS, DHCP, ICMP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP and VoiP).
  • Understanding of network addressing (MAC, 1Pv4,1Pv6).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Understanding of security technology (SSH, Encryption, Steganography).
  • Knowledge of logical, physical and wireless topologies.
  • Mastery of network design and devices (i.e., DMZ, IDF, MDF, Demarc, Hubs, Switches, Routers, Bridges, etc.)
  • Understanding of number systems (Decimal-Octet-Binary-Hexadecimal).
  • Ability to use network utilities (i.e., Arp, net share, Hostname, Netstat, Nbtstat, Ping, tracert, etc.).
  • Willingness to manage hardware and software used in class.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to integrate, current technological applications into our technology courses.
  • Ability to deliver required, predefined course elements, while drawing from one’s own knowledge and experiences, to engage students and make the course their own.
  • Ability to teach a variety of day and evening, and first- and second-year programming courses, at the main campus and/or at Regional Centers.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and/or willingness to develop and teach online and web enhanced courses.
  • Experience with and commitment to the use of instructional technology.

 


Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in cybersecurity tools (such as Wireshark, Nessus, etc.) appropriate for cybersecurity courses.
  • At least one year of experience teaching Networking courses at the college level, either as the primary instructor or as a graduate teaching assistant.
  • Active participation in industry related professional development activities, meetings, and/or conferences.
  • Prior experience using Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Active participation in national and/or regional industry professional organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations and addressing equity gaps.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching within a community college.
  • Bilingual or other language proficiency.
