As NC State’s central office and authoritative source for institutional reporting and analytics, Institutional Strategy and Analysis (ISA) supports the university’s strategic decisions, planning activities, operations, evaluation efforts, and accountability by providing consistent, reliable information and analysis to university leaders, administrators, faculty and staff, students, external stakeholders, and the public.
In carrying out its mission, ISA:
- Collects, analyzes, interprets, models, and reports information about NC State
- Manages institutional strategic planning, including implementation planning and metrics for the university strategic plan
- Provides leadership in governance and strategy with respect to the university’s academic and administrative data
- Administers, analyzes, supports, and oversees institutional surveys
- Supports, administers, and maintains applicable data structures, applications, and systems

The Implementation Specialist will report to the Associate Vice Provost for Strategy, Implementation and Communication (AVP) and join a small collaborative team being formed to provide direct implementation support for the university’s strategic initiatives. Most initiatives are cross-functional, and their collective impact spans the university’s teaching, research and engagement missions. The Implementation Specialist will be the team’s primary change management expert but should also possess basic knowledge and skills in project management and facilitation. The Implementation Specialist may be responsible for only one project at a time or may support two or three, depending on project complexity and scope.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide direct change management support for select implementation initiatives
- Work closely with the AVP, initiative contact(s), and other stakeholders as needed to gain a deep understanding of initiative goals and indicators of initiative success.
- Contribute the change management components to ISA team-developed proposals and plans for the initiative.
- Oversee some or all aspects of change management as required by the initiative, which may include change readiness assessments, risk analyses, impact assessments, strategy design, metric development and tracking, documentation, communication and training.
- Collaborate with the initiative project manager to integrate change management steps into overall project plans.
- Provide or secure facilitation as needed to help the initiative team surface issues, manage difficulties, or solve problems related to change implementation or adoption.
- Flag issues or barriers to success and work with the initiative contact or project team to create a relevant action plan.
Contribute to a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement
- Assist the AVP in identifying and creating internal team guidelines and procedures that clarify and improve service to university implementation initiatives.
- Lead in developing web-based, context-appropriate change management guidance, informational resources, tools, and other materials to benefit the broader university community.
- Apply change management skills to internal ISA projects upon request.

Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in the area of assignment, of which at least one is supervisory or in a lead-worker capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

- Understanding of and experience with managing the human side of change in complex enterprise-wide implementation projects, preferably within a higher education or non-profit environment
- Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn about, NC State’s mission, strategic goals and implementation initiatives, as well as its structural, cultural, and policy environments
- A service orientation and desire to help others do innovative, purposeful, and courageous work
- An ability to gain and maintain trust and respect throughout the organization

- Advanced proficiency with either the Google suite or Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel
