Position Summary

As a member of the Student Services team within the Enrollment Management department, the Career and Admissions Coordinator position works directly with incoming students and graduates to positively impact enrollment, post-graduate outcomes, institutional retention, and academic success. This position provides student support services to engage students through a variety of activities that ensure progression toward graduation, as well as collaboratively across the institution to develop interpersonal relationships with peers and faculty that support student services.

This position is 50% Career Services and 50% Admissions.

This position is located at the Blue Ridge CTC Main Campus, but may report to all Blue Ridge CTC locations as required to meet the needs of the position. This position will include managing a virtual office as needed.

This position is Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm with two late days 10:30a-7pm, based on student need. This position works special recruiting events and coordinates career events on campus.

Duties and Responsibilities

Career Services (50%):


  • Oversee, manage, and provide the following services: career assessment and interest inventories, career and major selection, resume critique, mock interviews, program-specific career days, job search strategies, cover letter writing, and connections with career resources both inside and outside the college.
  • Coordinate the placement program for graduates and recent alumni seeking employment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local employers whose recruiting needs match the knowledge, skills and abilities obtained through Blue Ridge CTC programs. Provide recruitment opportunities and activities for business and industry.
  • Document and track post graduate data to determine if Blue Ridge CTC graduates are employed within their field, actively seeking employment, or continuing their education.
  • Market students/alumni to appropriate employers and act as liaison between potential employers and students/alumni and work with faculty to foster and leverage employer partnerships.
  • Coordinate Career Services workshops on industry specific topics.
  • Coordinate annual Career Fair.

Admissions (50%):
  • Counselor will counsel new and current students in regards to academic programs, admissions requirements and procedures, financial aid application process, career goals, and academic majors.
  • Serve as instructor for new student orientation
  • Take Admissions appointments, answer phones and emails.
  • Attend college fairs, school visits, recruitment events or career days.
  • Assist students with academic advisement and registration, as well as collaborate with Faculty academic advisors to ensure students connect with departmental contacts for resources.
  • Support the college in new student advisement, registration, and retention events.
  • Participate in, and conduct student outreach, recruitment, and engagement events.


Miscellaneous:
  • Serve on College committees.
  • Work directly with students placed on academic probation, developing improvement plans to support student success.
  • Maintain the availability and willingness to work a full 37.5 hours a week. Availability and willingness to work a flexible schedule that could include early morning, evening hours, or weekends (for College recruitment events).
  • Performs assigned duties and any other duties to drive the College’s Vision, to fulfil the College’s Mission, and to abide by the College’s Values.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education


  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Human Resources Development, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience
  • Three years of higher education experience, along with knowledge of employment placement/staffing, sales, marketing, workforce development or career services experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a sales or workforce development environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively and develop relationships with peers and others across the institution that contribute to student and graduate success.
  • Ability to work independently on projects.
  • Strong desire to provide excellent customer service, focusing on the student experience and removing barriers to education.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to motivate others to perform.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other data processing software.
  • Skills within or ability to learn to run reports using data processing software. Ability to interpret data and develop action plans to impact student success.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing assignments/projects and maintaining records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, define problems, collect data, and effectively present information.
  • Ability to perform in a technical environment, working with a variety of data management and communication software.
  • Familiarity with issues faced by community college students. Ability to relate to a diverse population.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze programs, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems, using independent judgment and decision-making processes. Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty and administrators.
  • Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail.
  • Strong technology skills, capable of quickly learning new software and making recommendations to impact efficiency.
  • Knowledge of career services’ competencies, counseling.
  • Knowledge of effective sales strategies, persuasive communication skills.
  • Commitment to following all College policies and procedures.
Licensure/Certification Required
  • Valid driver’s license required.
