Position Purpose:

Direct all Loss Prevention efforts at Petco (Petco stores, support (non-store) functions including Distribution Centers, ecommerce and on-line fraud monitoring, data analytics/fraud investigations, NSC/SSC LP operations and building security, and business continuity with emphasis on shrink reduction, cash controls, safety, protection of company assets, fraud monitoring, and partner security. Deliver results as they relate to shrink budgets, cash shortage goals, cost/loss avoidance goals, safety metrics, etc.

Essential Job Functions: The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Provide strategic company-wide leadership and direction on shrink initiatives and programs that will enhance company profitability. Create, implement, and maintain Loss Prevention programs, which effectively reduce shrink, control cash, ensure a safe work environment, and protect all company assets e.g., fraud awareness and prevention programs, Policy & Procedure development and revisions, etc.

  • Subject matter expert on all fraud for omni-channel systems and processes across the different retail channels and associated functions that can cause shrink and loss including ecommerce (on-line), POS systems, inventory management, and cash and credit card management. Develop and implement pro-active loss control programs that protect the company's assets by reducing and preventing any type of loss (e.g. inventory theft, credit card fraud, gift card, cash theft, etc).

  • Facilitate communications among Internal Audit Services, Store Operations, ecommerce, IT Security and others on processes to identify fraud risk, including data mining and regular testing and review. Assist in development of loss and fraud prevention strategies and tools to reduce opportunities and occurrences company-wide.

  • Examine current and emerging risks, monitor external factors, and understand how these risks can impact the company. Recommend, design and implement loss prevention strategies and programs to help the company achieves its shrinkage and loss performance goals while providing a safe environment for our customers and partners.

  • Work with other senior LP management in the design and execution of fraud investigations. Develop and improve investigation protocols including providing direction to fraud investigators both at the SSC and in the field to ensure effective, thorough, timely and accurate investigations of complaints, especially in dealing with routine matters that do not require on-site investigation by Regional Loss Prevention Managers.

  • Direct DC initiatives to control losses associated with inventory shortage, workers compensation and loss related incidents. Advise distribution center operations staff in regards to safety, security, food standards, and quality assurance issues. Make appropriate recommendations for correction and/or escalate as appropriate.

  • Manage, coach and develop ecommerce fraud investigators and oversee the execution of the business continuity/disaster recovery programs to help minimize both human and capital loss.

  • Ensure return on investment with regards to all capital investments e.g., CCTV systems, alarm systems, access control, merchandise protection fixtures, etc.

  • Provide consultation and evaluate physical security needs as they relate to security system design and security staffing for all support facilities.

  • Establish effective partnerships with field operations leaders (VPRO's and DM's), as well as, NSC department leaders.

  • Supervise, coach and develop Regional Loss Prevention Management (RLPM's) staff. Effectively manage, coach, and develop RLPM team. Ensure that RLPM's execute established core roles.

  • Supports the physical inventory process in both the stores and distribution centers.

  • Ensure return on investment with regards to all capital investments e.g., CCTV systems, alarm systems, access control, merchandise protection fixtures, etc.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in the annual budgeting process i.e., shrink, capital, travel, etc.

  • Initiate and participate in misconduct investigations and interviews when appropriate.

  • Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication at all levels both inside and outside of the company.

  • Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes and through the work of subordinate LP associates.

  • Analyze data to pro-actively determine appropriate course of action and implement solutions.

  • Efficiently create complex documents, reports and presentations using MS Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.

Nature of Supervision:

Interaction with the Vice President, Store Operations will be of strategic and goal-setting nature and minimal instruction and /or training may be provided on some tasks performed. The incumbent will often be called upon to exercise individual judgment, based upon his/her experience to resolve matters with the company's best interests in mind.

Supervision Responsibility:

Direct supervisory responsibility for NSC/SSC Loss Prevention Managers/Supervisors, Business Continuity Analyst, ecommerce Fraud Investigators, Regional Loss Prevention Managers, Distribution Center LP Supervisors, and DC Auditors to include interviewing, hiring, training, assignment, delegation, and follow-through to include interviewing, hiring, training, assignment, delegation, and follow-through.

Education/Experience:

A four-year college degree with a relevance to retail loss prevention/asset protection ispreferred with a minimum of 10 years experience in retail management, specifically related to loss prevention issues, including at least five years as a manager with multiple direct reports or equivalent experience. A degree in such areas as finance, business, criminal justice, or sociology would be considered. Demonstrates advanced math proficiency, ability to analyze complex problems/trends and draw appropriate conclusions and action plans. Exceptional interpersonal skills, as well as, exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required.

Work Environment:

Automobile and/or air travel are expected approximately 20% of the time in order to fulfill job responsibilities.

Contact:

Interaction with direct supervisor, Vice President, Store Operations. Interaction with both SSC/NSC VP's/Directors/Managers and Field VP's/Directors/Managers. Interaction will also be required with state and federal law enforcement agencies, District Attorneys, banks, collections agencies, witnesses, and other retail loss prevention departments in order to conduct thorough/efficient investigations and take action where required and appropriate.

$163,100.00 - $244,600.00
