If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

 

Our Communications Department is seeking a Project Manager to be part of our Multimedia Production team and in partnership with our Comms Strategists, to provide project management for government sponsor facing outreach and engagement programs. In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to our staff and collaborate with our creative team to execute project plans in delivery of a variety of multi complex deliverables.

 

As an Engagement and Outreach Project Manager, you will:

  • Develop and execute project plans for education and outreach mission-based activities, programs and initiatives for diverse audiences tied to space exploration.
  • Incorporate effective evaluation strategies in mission outreach and engagement plans.
  • Work with project sponsors, Comm Strategist (CS) and creative staff to translate complex projects into well-executed and visually compelling deliverables.
  • Oversee and execute communication campaigns by working closely with COMM Strategists (CS), Client and Event Services (CES), leadership and technical staff in support of Mission specific project management needs and demands.
  • Develop and/or provide critical review of lesson plans and activities for formal and informal audiences
  • Work closely with the Financial Manager to align project tasking with budget allocation.
  • Develop robust project plans for sector/department level communications strategy.
  • Provide leadership in the planning and execution of strategic and impactful deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with team members responsible for external, internal, and editorial communication.
  • Effectively communicate budget and project impacts to stakeholders.
  • Build trust with clients by demonstrating reliability, authenticity, transparency.
  • Lead teams in all phases-planning to execution-while communicating and tracking project requirements.
  • Plan and manage project scope by determining and prioritizing requirements with stakeholders in conjunction with COMM resources.
  • Serve as a conduit between clients and the various COMMS team members to execute deliverables according to schedule.
  • Build strong relationships with enterprise service departments and effectively communicate logistics and impacts to on-site staff.
  • Consult with clients to develop dynamic and engaging content for internal comms (i.e., digital displays, invitations, physical displays, fact sheets, etc.)
  • Develop estimates, track and monitor individual project budgets via communications department tools.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • A Bachelor's degree in communications, business administration, operations, graphic design, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in project management to include mission specific events and public outreach, branding, collateral creation, and integrated projects and events.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical, critical thinking, project management and organizational communications skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing multifaceted situations and collaborating across complex organizations.
  • Experience working with creative teams in a dynamic environment.
  • An ability to operate independently, set priorities, and adjudicate competing needs in a fast- paced organization.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have experience in designing and/or operating outreach programs at  local levels (schools, libraries, science centers, museums) and national levels (NASA, NOAA).
  • Successfully developed and executed outreach and engagement plans for NASA missions or have built strong relationships within the NASA education community.
  • More than 10 years of demonstrated experience in project management and mission specific events and public outreach, branding, collateral creation, and integrated projects and events. Familiarity with one or more specific mission work experience.
  • An understanding of science and technical writing and the peer-review process. Worked with government, DoD, academic, or scientific research staff.
  • Proficiency in developing, managing, and marketing successful and sophisticated cross- channel projects and events.
  • A Secret-level (or higher) security clearance.
