SUMMARY

Supervises, manages, and oversees the hourly employees on the maintenance team. This position coordinates/manages maintenance activities and repairs to ensure the smooth operation of NASSCO's critical yard equipment and infrastructure. Major responsibilities include safety of all crewmembers, fluid communications with customers, and transparency up and down the chain of command. Additionally, the Maintenance Supervisor is expected to interface with vendors, OEM manufacturers, and our in-house purchasing team in order to quickly and effectively source and procure parts, as needed.

Reports to General Supervisor, Assistant Manager, and Manager of Maintenance. Requires collaboration with NASSCO internal customers, maintenance and production engineering, Material Support Technicians, and Supply chain personnel. Ideally, candidate will have a working knowledge of Maintstar ticket issuing and tracking, as well as a fundamental knowledge of preventative maintenance practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Carries out work assignments in a timely and professional manner with emphasis on:

  • Supervising all maintenance activities
  • Oversees/Manages Habitability, Move & Rearrange, and Preventative Maintenance procedures
  • Manage Maintenance personnel to accomplish daily objectives including preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Reconcile incomplete or inadequate requests with customer in order to establish appropriate schedule alternatives
  • Drive to an established ordering procedure utilizing support of maintenance Material Support Specialists, and Supply Chain Management
  • Providing Machinery or equipment status to customers and management on a regular basis.
  • Monitoring all works of the crew through use of your assigned working foreman, and through regular check-ins onsite
  • Assist in design, specification, or establishment of new procedures when accomplishing Facilities projects
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Clean, uninterrupted work history plus five (5) years' experience in a facilities or maintenance environment. Requires working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and associated software. Additional software skills such as Microsoft Access and Project are desirable. Requires organizational skills and ability to prioritize own work. Experienced in repair scheduling, cost controls, vendor/contractor interaction, safety, and repair procedures. Excellent written and verbal communications skills, particularly in a team environment, are essential.
  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work occurs in both an outdoor shipyard environment and in an office setting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Position requires the ability to distinguish color.Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Position requires employees to carry, raise, lower, push or pull objects up to 50lbs. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 65% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Results are related to the quality and timeliness of completing repairs and maintenance activities, specifically on the ability to meet customer expectations relating to equipment function, to maximize production uptime. The maintenance supervisor must be able to control costs and adhere to the direction of his leadership.

PAYSCALE:

$77,700 - $110,300

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
