Essential Job Duties

Reporting to the Director of Graduate Career Services, the Associate Director will design and implement career services initiatives for Working Professional students enrolled in Poole College’s graduate business degree programs. This currently includes Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Marketing Analytics (MMA), and Master of Risk Analytics (MRA) programs.

The Working Professional student body comprises 600 – 800 individuals with diverse industry backgrounds and five to fifteen years of experience. Working professionals in our degree programs who are often employed full-time while earning their degree, and hold positions at various levels ranging from early career to C suite. The majority of our graduate students are located in the research triangle or the greater North Carolina area.

The Associate Director’s responsibilities will include:

1. Develop and Execute Career Services Offerings:
  • Identify core competency areas for professional development.
  • Provide strategic direction for a comprehensive suite of offerings to meet identified needs, including workshops, industry panels, networking events, and digital tools.
  • Establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of services and to continuously improve offerings.

2. Supervise Working Professional Career Coaching Team:
  • Manage a team of part-time career coaches to support service implementation and provide one-on-one coaching.

3. Deliver Career Coaching:
  • Offer individual and group coaching on various career skills, including: recruiting materials (resume, cover letter, LinkedIn; ATS software, etc.); networking and informational interviewing, personal branding, interviewing skills, and evaluating and negotiating job offers.

4. Employment Outcome Reporting:
  • Implement a process to collect, analyze, and report working professional employment outcomes in alignment with industry standards.

5. Support Overall Career Center Outcomes:
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders such as student services, employer relations, marketing, development, faculty, and alumni to advance the career center’s mission.
  • Assist with Career Center events and initiatives as needed.

This position is eligible for a Hybrid schedule.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • MBA or MA in counseling OR Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of professional work experience in the private sector
  • Experience working in one or more fields that employs MBA’s.

Other Required Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of professional work experience in private sector; solid knowledge of and interest in MBA employers/careers (e.g. marketing, finance, technology, operations and supply chain management, manufacturing, etc.).
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to implement systems.
  • Be able to work flexible, long hours on a seasonal basis with compensatory time off. Some evening and weekend events and domestic travel may be necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or equivalent professional experience in the business world.
  • Experience in leadership, people management, program management, human resources, talent acquisition/recruiting, or learning and development functions.
  • Experience coaching early career, mid-career, and senior level professionals.
  • Exceptional program management skills.
  • Enjoys ownership of projects, driving results, and impacting lives.
  • Values iterative approach to assessing and enhancing product quality and impact.
  • Enjoys a blend of one-on-one interactions and group interactions.
  • Basic to intermediate skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
