Class Description

This position is responsible for working collaboratively with the Program Director for development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic processes and initiatives designed to foster student success and retention in MSSI, while fully supporting the mission, vision, and values of CCBC. Major areas this position will be responsible for the design, implementation, and support the Early Alert System for “At Risk” MSSI students. This includes managing a caseload of students below a 2.0gpa, as well as the establishment of study halls, a peer tutoring model, and opening pathways to short term credentials and certificates through CCBC’s Continuing Education programs for ALL MSSI students. Additionally, this position will serve as the daily supervisor to Part-Time MSSI Mentors and will assist with the creation/coordination of the after school and summer bridge programming for boys of color grades 10-12, in conjunction with CCBC Honors Program and Baltimore County Public Schools.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Education or related discipline.  A minimum of five (3) years of experience working within higher education, preferably at a community college that serves a diverse student population is required. Demonstrated successful experience working with first semester students as they transition into college is required. Experience supporting diverse student populations facing complex academic, personal, social and financial issues is strongly preferred.Prior Teaching experience K-12 or college level, academic advising, the ability to work with and assist students with physical and/or developmental disabilities and the knowledge of national trends and areas of concern regarding men of color is preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Use cognitive skills to solve problems, develop, plan and implement short and long-range goals, and organize work or assigned projects.
  2. Serve as the official communication arm of MSSI – relaying information to faculty, parents, students etc.
  3. Establish processes for systematic tracking of student academic progress (including response to Early Alerts)
  4. Collaborate with MSSI leadership to design workshops and presentations (including professional development opportunities) for targeted departments and functional units, including faculty.
  5. Responsible for tracking and recording established metrics within MSSI.
