Position Overview

The School of Business at the University of Kansas is searching for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in Finance for the 2024-25 academic year. Primary duties focus on teaching undergraduate or graduate level courses in various topics in Finance, such as financial management, investments, corporate finance, financial intermediaries, personal finance, banking, real estate, and portfolio management. All interested candidates should demonstrate their industry and/or teaching expertise in Finance.

The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins. Any employment with the University of Kansas is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Initial appointment will be for 1-year term with an official title of Lecturer. Position is renewable and subject to needs of the School of Business and the Finance department at the time of reappointment.

Job Description

80% Teaching
Teach undergraduate or graduate level courses in various topics in Finance, such as financial management, investments, corporate finance, financial intermediaries, personal finance, banking, real estate, and portfolio management. Duties include but are not limited to course preparation, consultation, and assignment of course grades. Typical course load for this 1.0 FTE appointment is four courses each semester (fall and spring). Course load and teaching assignments will be determined by the Area Director to best meet the needs of the School of Business. All instructors should abide by area, school, and university policies and procedures.

20% Service
Participate as an active member of the area and engage in instruction-related activities beyond direct instruction. Examples include curriculum development committees, course improvement initiatives, and advising student organizations. All faculty members are expected to fulfill their share of service duties needed to facilitate the efficient operation of the school.

Required Qualifications

  1. For teaching undergraduate courses: a Masters (or higher) degree in business, marketing, or closely related field. For teaching graduate courses: A Ph.D. in marketing or related field.
  2. A demonstrated record of teaching excellence in marketing and/or professional selling, OR a record of mentorship, leadership or training experience in a professional setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated (or high potential for) scholarly or industry engagement.

Letters of recommendation will be required from selected applications as the search process moves beyond the initial screening round.
