The Closed-Loop Engineering for Advanced Rehabilitation (CLEAR) initiative, located within the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State University and UNC – Chapel Hill, embodies a visionary approach. CLEAR is dedicated to three interconnected pillars: 1) Mechanics, 2) Control and Learning, and 3) Perception and Cognition. The seamless integration of these focal areas will allow for unprecedented advances in human-machine symbiosis to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.
Essential Job Duties
The Assistant Research Professor is actively engaged in advancing research within CLEAR (Closed-loop Engineering for Advanced Rehabilitation).
Responsibilities:
- Developing and conducting research projects within the focus of CLEAR (Closed-loop Engineering for Advanced Rehabilitation)core.
- The current needed research direction focuses on studying cognitive and psychological impact of wearable robotics on human users, motor control and learning in the context of wearer-robot systems, and human-robot symbiosis.
- Developing research proposals independently or collaboratively
- Development of experimental plans and conduct human-subject related research
- Supervising of undergraduate and graduate research students
- Secure external funding to support his/her research projects.
- Publish key findings in leading journals and assist in obtaining extramural funding
- Participate in collaborative proposal development within CLEAR
- Participating in the outreach activity
Minimum Education and Experience
- Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field, such as kinesiology.
- At least 3 years of post-doctorate research experience

Preferred Qualifications
- High level of knowledge in human perception, sensory-motor integration, robotic prosthetics, haptics, human-robot interactions, human cognitive load measurements, and clinical biomechanics (focusing on populations with limb loss and individuals post stroke).
- Have publications on peer-reviewed journals and conferences
- Experiences in proposal writing and have shown success in securing research funding
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
