Primary Purpose:

Perform design reviews, shop drawing and fabrication inspections, and post-construction inspections of utility infrastructure and related facilities. Provide detailed punchlists to Field Construction Advisors and requests for information to engineering regarding items found during inspection. Support inspection smart tool development and provide training to Field Construction Advisors in the use of the tool. Review engineering and shop drawing packages for discrepancies and conflicts with company standards, specifications, and work methods.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review engineering drawings during design phase for adherence to company specifications and standards. Evaluate drawings for constructability and safety issues. Document findings and forward to appropriate groups and document control sites.
  • Perform detailed inspections of recently completed utility infrastructure and related facilities after Field Construction Advisors have completed their reviews of completed construction facilities. Verify technical requirements and specifications are met with transmission poles delivered to company property. Document discrepancies through the development of detailed punchlists and send to appropriate groups through document control sites for resolution.
  • Provide oversight and direction to QA/QC subcontractor(s) to ensure that a high level of expertise is implemented in inspection activities, engineering design drawing reviews, and project coordination of the transmission compliance work activities.
  • Conduct shop drawing reviews and fabrication inspections at job sites and fabricator sites as appropriate. Provide detailed comments on drawings and fabricated materials to document discrepancies for correction.
  • Regularly attend project meetings to ensure communication regarding QA/QC requirements and their implementation.
  • Support the development and implementation of tools that enable the QA/QC process to be more efficient (e.g. touch pad applications for capturing and easily disseminating discrepancies for correction). Act as an internal company resource regarding lessons learned/best practices and benefits of new tools, methods, and processes.
  • As appropriate, perform a percentage sampling review of discrepancies after construction team has corrected items to ensure punchlists have been completed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Required Qualifications:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED.
  • 5 years - construction inspection experience is required.
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in computers and software such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Adobe, and others.
  • Must be proficient in reviewing engineering drawings for electric distribution and transmission facilities.
  • Must be familiar with company standards and specifications for electric distribution and transmission line design and construction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Qualified electrical worker (QEW) experience, with at least 3 years of journeyman lineman experience is preferred.
  • Utility construction experience is desired.
