Social Worker MSW/MSW SR - 1.0 FTE, Adult Pulmonary MSW

Job Description

Summary

This MSW role provides social work services to adults in the Outpatient Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, Vent Clinic, Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic, Post-ICU Clinic, and General Pulmonary Clinics. This patient population suffers from chronic lung disease and experiences high acuity of anxiety, depression, trauma, adjustment and coping concerns, and grief and loss. The social worker will conduct psychosocial assessments, treatment, and care management services to patients and their families. In the vent, PULSE and CF clinics, the SW works as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians, nurses, dietitians, respiratory therapy, pharmacists, and physical therapy. Both face-to-face and virtual work will be utilized in this position.

Responsibilities*

  • Evaluation of psychosocial needs and provision of billable social work interventions with a high degree of autonomy
  • Facilitating patient and family participation in appropriate health care decision making
  • Crisis intervention
  • Patient and/or family support and counseling
  • Support group facilitation
  • Liaison and referral to community agencies
  • Mental health assessment, brief psychotherapeutic intervention, and psychoeducation for patients and caregivers
  • Participation in team meetings, educational activities, and patient advisory board
  • Referral monitoring and management
     

Required Qualifications*

  • A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
  • A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Significant experience with medical and mental health social work.
  • Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
  • Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective case dispositions.
  • Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical clinic.
  • Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position.
  • Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer.
  • Experience with evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions.
     

Work Schedule

This is full time, 40 hour/week position. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday with start and end times 8:00-4:30 or 8:30-5:00. Some remote work is available, subject to change due to clinic/department needs.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
