Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The digital asset manager/archivist is responsible for the organization of digital assets and image library, providing timely response to image requests and inputting searchable image metadata best practices for future image research and retrieval. The digital archivist will organize and integrate all image resources in the Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC) to provide a single, efficient, searchable database to encompass the varied and complex storage areas that currently exist.

This position supports the mission of the OMC as well as the University of Maryland in acting as the central location for curated campus, student, faculty and research imagery that promotes the university brand for internal and external constituencies.

The archivist is responsible for the meticulous implementation and maintenance of the central image database that enables quick response to critical media and stakeholder requests. The increased demand for digital imagery has created multiple and varied archives of photography, artwork, video, logos and other electronic media. The image archivist will serve as the liaison to the OMC and campus partners with accessing and retrieval of suitable, quality images as well as creating and implementing a data system that is easily accessible to all staff.

The image archivist will also contribute daily to the digital content hub, serving as the lead in managing, soliciting, organizing, photo-editing or repackaging content for digital and print platforms to meet the university’s strategic communications goals as well as ensuring high-quality images and content.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Library Science or related field.

Experience:
  • Minimum five (5) years of full-time professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience as a Digital Asset Manager or similar role, with expert knowledge of archival methods, procedures, and media available for managing digital assets,
  • Ability to develop procedures and guidelines with a strong understanding of digital asset management principles and best practices.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Client relation and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in changing environment of requirements and workflows.
  • Knowledge of with DAM copyright laws, licensing agreements, and usage rights.
  • Proven experience in design, photo editing and multimedia production tools (Adobe Creative Suite.)

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or a related field.
  • A demonstrated creative sensibility for photo editing, design and composition.

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
