The Senior Technology Transfer Accountant is a key member of the Accounting and Finance function of the Belfer Office for Dana-Farber Innovations (BODFI). The primary role of the Senior Technology Transfer Accountant is to manage all revenue derived from commercial licenses to Dana-Farber intellectual property, including royalty income, milestone fees and other license fees. The individual will be responsible for the maintenance and computational integrity of the royalty distribution policy in the database for each license. Additionally, the role is responsible for the payment of the distribution to all stakeholders of Dana-Farber’s intellectual property, such as the innovators, the laboratory and department of the innovators and DFCI.). In doing so, this role safeguards that DFCI remains in compliance with the Bayh-Dole regulations regarding the distribution of royalty (licensing) income.

In addition, this position is responsible for other general accounting functions that may include preparation, analysis, reconciliation, interpretation, and maintenance of BODFI’s accounting records, internal and external financial reports, and accounting policies and procedures. This role provides assistance to BODFI Management as needed in the coordination and preparation for audits.

The Senior Technology Transfer Accountant will work closely with BODFI’s Licensing Professionals, Sr. Financial Manager, BODFI Systems Analyst, departmental administrative and support staff, Principal Investigators (PIs) and with DFCI’s General Accounting department.

 

Responsibilities

• Responsible and accountable for all aspects of income distributions related to licensing revenue(~$20M annually)
• Maintain the integrity of the database calculations as related to licensing revenue distributions.
• On a quarterly basis (or as needed) prepare payment requests to all parties due a distribution.
• Responsible for providing detailed reconciliations and analyses for assigned duties as well as any special projects, some of which may be in collaboration with DFCI General Accounting colleagues.
• Works closely with BODFI Licensing Professionals to ensure that distributions are processed in a timely and accurate manner.
• Will perform other related duties as needed and assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles and practices.
• Familiarity with policies and procedures related to job responsibilities
• Technical and professional accounting skills; strong reconciliation skills
• Ability to help develop and maintain computer-based, automated accounting systems, accounting procedures and control systems.
• Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels in and outside of DFCI
• PeopleSoft skills desirable.
• Highly motivated, self-directed individual with strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain favorable working relationships with a wide variety of professional groups.
• Ability to work independently and be committed to working closely with others as an integral member of the team.
• Must possess a customer-service philosophy.
• Performs tasks with minimal supervision and may be an active participant on various committees and project teams.
• Prepares routine analyses without supervision, and can recognize, research and address variances and other problems.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required; minimum of 5 years of related work experience preferably in the health care industry or a non-profit organization.
