Essential Job Duties
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing several apiaries of honey bee colonies for a total of 50 – 250 hives by ordering and assembling any new beekeeping requirement, and moving bee colonies from apiary to apiary for research.
- Assisting students, postdoctoral researchers, and part-time employees through various beekeeper extension programs for apiculture education.
- Overseeing data collection and colony manipulation which includes requeening colonies, preventing swarming, and making splits.
- Maintaining the research facilities including the grounds, apiaries, and other outdoor spaces utilized, and collecting colony data.
- Serving as a liaison with local beekeeper groups and other interested stakeholders to coordinate and conduct numerous outreach events.
- Creating social media content and web presence to generate stakeholder engagement.
This position is time-limited for 2 years.

Minimum Experience/Education
Other Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in beekeeper education.
- Working knowledge of social media, software, and video editing.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Adaptability and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Practical experience in apiculture science and honey bee management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with commercial apiculture.
Required License or Certification
- A valid NC Driver’s License and the ability to obtain an NC Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.
- A valid Driver’s License must be maintained throughout employment.
