ECLIPSe Coaches lead 16-person student groups once a week in communication, group process and healthy decision making through experiential team building & hands-on activities. We call these activities ECLIPSe challenges (Exercises in Collaborative Learning and Innovative Problem Solving). This is a part time position that requires coming to UNH one evening a week to coach two sessions (plus dinner prior from 4:30-5:00) from 5:30-6:45 & 7:00-8:15; 6/25, 7/2, 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, and 7/30. Ideal candidates will have experience or degree in Education, Outdoor Education, Counseling, School Counseling or Social Work, or experience working in Experiential Education or Residence Halls/Student Life; team building experience is necessary as is experience working with teens.
The Summer Program
The Upward Bound Summer Academy takes place on the campus of the University of New Hampshire where students live in a UNH residence hall, eat at a UNH dining hall, and attend classes in academic buildings throughout the campus. UB teachers are committed to education and to helping young people and have the opportunity to create an experiential curriculum that is both interesting and inspiring. The 2023 six-week summer program is scheduled to begin on Sunday, June 25 with an end date of Friday, August 4 excluding weekends.
Training & Other Responsibilities
Upward Bound Staff will provide pre-summer training on both an individual level and at a full staff afternoon retreat to help guide curriculum and to introduce the Upward Bound program. While working predominantly with your specific ECLIPSe groups, you will have the opportunity to interact with the entire program during our No Discount Policy ceremony.

- Desire to help disadvantaged youth succeed;
- Sensitivity and maturity level to successfully work in a summer academic program with high school aged students;
- Ability to interact with diverse constituencies including program & UNH staff, parents/guardians, and students;
- Completion of an AA/AS/BS/BA program in relevant field;
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in direct instruction of high school students or in experiential education/team building;
- Experience participating in a TRIO, or similar, pre-college program;
- Experience working with students from low-income backgrounds, multiethnic backgrounds and/or who are potential first-generation college graduates.

Since 1966, UNH Upward Bound has helped several thousand New Hampshire young people earn college degrees and improve their options for successful careers. Our program begins during the Academic Year where students will meet with advisers twice monthly in their schools and receive academic, career, and college assistance and guidance.
