Essential Job Duties

The General Shops Supervisor provides supervision and guidance to four full time General Shop staff members throughout the year and up to thirty student/temporary (seasonal) workers over the summer. The General Shop provides logistical support to DASA throughout the year, assists with projects and renovation work in University Housing, and provides preventive maintenance to facilities within University Housing Residence Halls. 

This position maintains inventory, and follows budget guidelines to complete work assignments within the department’s residence halls, apartments, and office spaces. This position also supervises the delivery of US Postal Mail to residence halls and campus mail to University Housing staff.

Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in the trade(s) areas assigned; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, and methods of leading a General Shops crew.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of General Shops members.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in performing the full range of journey level tasks in at least one trade area.
  • Multiple trades exposure.
  • Supervisory experience in a related field.
  • Project management experience

Required License or Certification

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.
