Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The CLASS Instructional Lab Assistant is responsible for providing technical, clerical, and support to students at the Center for Learning, Academic, and Student Success. They are required to work closely with the Director of the Center for Learning, Academic, and Student Success, Academic Success Coaches, faculty, lab assistants, student workers, and tutors. They will serve as the point of contact with the Information Technology Department to ensure that all computer equipment and software are up-to-date. The CLASS Instructional Lab Assistant will provide students with technology workshops and guides to ensure student success.
 
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises and/or administers exams (face-to-face and online) for instructors in all disciplines.
  2. Works closely with CLASS Academic Success Coaches to assist with coaching for students.
  3. Trains students in the proper use of related computer equipment in the lab.
  4. Provides training in software programs such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) to ensure students have the skills necessary for academic success.
  5. Monitors labs to ensure computers and associated equipment is up-to-date and working properly.
  6. Provides instruction to all student users on the proper use of all lab equipment.
  7. Creates and distributes reference materials to help users learn and understand how to use computer programs.
  8. Supervises student workers and tutors.
  9. Coordinates with Center staff in identifying appropriate software and hardware for implementation in the computer labs.
  10. Communicates with faculty to ensure that student workers and tutors have the most current instructional materials needed to tutor students.
  11. Researches, evaluates, and recommends the purchase of student success technology programs and services.
  12. Ensures all data and correspondence are properly maintained and filed.
  13. Performs additional duties assigned by the Director of the Center for Learning, Academic, and Student Success.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • AAS degree in Computer Information Systems or equivalent from two-year College or Technical School.
  • The CLASS Instructional Lab Assistant is responsible for technical, clerical, and training duties. 
  • They are required to ensure a clean and safe learning environment for all students. 
  • The CLASS Instructional Lab Assistant will also be required to perform technical training in the use of technology.
  • Ongoing Professional Development.
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be proficient with personal computer usage, presentation software, and technology, development of academic student success programs/workshops, and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Must have effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic. 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty. 
  • Must be committed to the college philosophy and mission.

Physical Requirements  
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment 
Work is performed in a standard office environment.    
Work inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.  
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
