The Technology Success Coach will work with students in the SUNY High Needs Technology grant project from recruitment to completion. The coach will support student success and persistence to credential achievement. A primary responsibility of this position is to provide Enrollment Advising, which includes Recruitment, Admissions, Academic Advising, Registration, and Financial Guidance, all within the career pathways framework. Additionally, as a success coach, the position will provide referrals to resources and support. The coach has to collaborate and maintain good working relationships within the college community as well as with the community at large, specifically with regional employers that support the career pathways. This position is centered in holistic engagement and support of students to grow allowing equal access to educational pathways for all students.

Occasional meetings at different SUNY CCC locations and travel to regional employers and/or recruiting events will be required.

Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing.

Typical office and indoor building environments, occasional outdoor activity may be required.

Student Recruitment, Advising, and Support (85%)
  • Initiate communication with potential students and employers about SUNY CCC helping to upskill employees, the grant benefits, and the enrollment process;
  • Recruit appropriate student for Mechatronics A.A.S, Mechanical Technology: CAD Design A.A.S., Machine Tool Technology A.A.S., Electrical Technology-Electronics A.A.S.;
  • Prepare educational plans for students and work with them in an advisory role;
  • Serve students as an inquiry-focused coach and listener to guide, support, and reflect with students to promote personal insight;
  • Advise Mechatronics A.A.S, Mechanical Technology: CAD Design A.A.S., Machine Tool
  • Technology A.A.S., Electrical Technology-Electronics A.A.S. students on options for continuing education and/or employment;
  • Create and maintain positive rapport, collaborations and partnerships with business partners;
  • Participate in internal and external recruitment events to promote SUNY CCC and services provided prospective students;
  • Assist students with College processes and tools (i.e. course material in Brightspace learning management system)
  • Ongoing communication with grant Principal Investigator.

Administrative Duties (15%)
  • Assist with student information/progress/tracking for grant reporting;
  • Assist with general communication to Mechatronics A.A.S, Mechanical Technology: CAD Design A.A.S., Machine Tool Technology A.A.S., Electrical Technology-Electronics A.A.S.students;
  • Complete grant reporting as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be a high functioning user of Google and/or Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively and efficiently in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures involved in academic advising.
  • Understanding of community college philosophy and familiarity with challenges of adult student populations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to take initiative, be self-directed, and ability to follow through with completion of tasks and projects.
  • Grant administration experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing, demonstrate effective listening skills, and display respect for and openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts.
  • Ability to accept changes to job requirements, policies, workload, etc., as well as learn new methods, procedures, or techniques resulting from change with the ability to clearly approach problems and find solutions.
  • Demonstrates support for the College’s goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally aware community and practicing anti-racist/biased behaviors.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Associate degree and One year of experience in student or human services related area
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet student availability
  • Remote Internet access for virtual meetings/student coaching sessions
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for travel to off-campus sites, as required.

Preferred Qualification:
  • Knowledge of the various degree programs and resources offered at SUNY CCC preferred.
  • Grant administration experience preferred.
