We are accepting applications for a Senior Wet Utility Maintenance Technician in Carlsbad, CA (San Diego, CA). The Ideal candidate must have 5+ years of responsibility inspecting, maintaining, and repairing drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure, including experience identifying and developing the scope and resources needed to complete repair and replacement of wet utility infrastructure safely and efficiently, directing staff and subcontractor resources, and strict compliance with OSHA safety regulations.

Your Responsibilities as a Senior Wet Utility Maintenance Technician:

  • Inspect and maintain stormwater, drinking water, and wastewater infrastructure at client properties across San Diego and adjacent counties.
  • Identify and document deferred maintenance and repair needs, including the appropriate scope of work, personnel, equipment, material, and permits needed to address the deferred maintenance or repair.
  • Operate various types of construction equipment, including, but not limited to excavators, mini-ex, loaders, track hoes, bobcats, concrete and hand saws, hammer drills, tampers, and concrete mixers.
  • Strict adherence to Cal-OSHA and Apex safe work practices, including but not limited to heat illness protection, safe excavation (OSHA competent person), utility mark-outs and delineation, electrical lock-out/tag-out, silica rule, traffic control, and tool/equipment inspection.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair wet utility infrastructure, including, but not limited to catch basins, drop and curb inlets, water main valves, backflow devices, manholes, underground pipe, v-ditches and concrete swales, municipal connections, wet wells, lift/pump stations, retention/detention/infiltration basins, modular wetlands, auto-dialer alarm systems, and hillside erosion control.
  • Direct staff and subcontractor efforts.
  • Apply construction and regulatory compliance techniques.
  • Document field observations.
  • Account for and manage project materials and equipment.
  • Conduct site inspections.
  • Ensure safe performance of project work.

What we're looking for:
  • GED or High School Diploma.
  • 5+ years of related construction experience (Wet utility experience required).
  • Prior experience with repair and construction of stormwater infrastructure, concrete structures, rebar and concrete finishing, underground piping, and detention/retention basins
  • Experience with operation of heavy construction equipment (e.g., skid loader, backhoe, excavator), power tools, and concrete hand tools.
  • Able to perform manual labor, Lift and carry 60 pounds, work in confined spaces and under inclement weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of stormwater & sediment and erosion control.
  • Thorough understanding of safe work practices in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Comfortable using pickups and equipment trailers while understanding DOT requirements.
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Clean background record allowing work at DoD and TWIC facilities.
