If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our team at APL's Los Angeles Field Office in El Segundo, California.

 

As a Space Cybersecurity Systems Engineer in Los Angeles, you will collaborate with a dedicated team of JHUAPL staff to form a nexus of expertise serving the growing need for cybersecurity across the JHUAPL National Security Space mission area, within its Space Exploration Sector. As part of this team you will work with US Government sponsors to develop system CONOPS, define cyber and software architectures for sponsor solutions, work with partners to define system requirements, assist sponsors to ensure user needs are met and contractors are meeting requirements and results. Act as Technical Advisor Agent to sponsors in architecture, cybersecurity and program development and in contractor program reviews, both internal and external.

 

As a Space Cybersecurity Systems Engineer you will...

  • Work at the JHUAPL Los Angeles Field Office in El Segundo, California. This is an on-site position with flexibility for telework on an adhoc basis.
  • Apply systems engineering processes to define and translate concepts, identify architecture technical requirements.
  • Participate in system design, development, prototyping, demonstration and testing efforts.
  • Work as part of a US Government team to validate and verify design specifications, document and analyze requirements, review and critique system requirement verification plan and procedures, and analyze system performance vs. requirements and user needs.
  • Interact closely with multiple collaborators, system and software engineers to arrive at a consensus on the design, development and test phases of the program.
  • Present analysis, propose technical solutions, model and measure performance, and validate results.
  • Review cyber architectures and designs of applications within distributed computing networks, data networks, network simulation, and tactical networks.
  • Perform vulnerability assessment of computer networks and satellite ground stations.
  • Participate as a member of the government team to evaluate contractor proposals, and assist the program office in providing contractor guidance to ensure the developed system meets user needs while containing program risks. Additionally, brief the approach, implementation and progress to JHUAPL management and government sponsors.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum requirements if you have....

  • Possess a BS in computer engineering, electrical engineering or computer science related subject areas.
  • One or more advanced cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, etc.
  • Have 10+ years of strong systems engineering (SE) experience with emphasis on cyber security and software security requirements and definition.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cybersecurity policy and implementation, protection against software intrusion techniques, understanding of communication networks, and overall system vulnerability.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an understanding of communication networks.
  • Demonstrated the ability to apply cybersecurity principles to space systems design.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work in a dynamic environment that has changing needs and requirements.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work independently, work as a teammate and work closely with sponsors.
  • Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication skills and good organizational skills.
  • The ability to travel occasionally.
  • Hold an active Top Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You will go above and beyond our qualifications if you have:

  • Possess a MS in systems engineering, systems management, electrical engineering, or computer science related disciplines and 15+ years of systems engineering and cybersecurity with understanding of communication and computer networks.
  • Experience with current Department of Defense space systems, DoDAF, US Government acquisition processes.
  • Demonstrated project management training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in cyber and computer network security and protection.
  • Experience in protecting against Cyber intrusion techniques.
  • Hold an active TS/SCI or SSBI.

Base pay will take into account the selected candidate’s knowledge, experience, skill and/or abilities with consideration for internal parity. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.  APL provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, part-time study and training and development. Base pay range for this role: $90,000 - $315,000.
