“Talk With Your Baby” (TWYB) is a multi-agency parent education initiative, coordinated at the RCLC, which teaches that the first three years of life are the most important for the development of a baby’s brain, so it is crucial that parents talk with babies as much as possible.
Service Position Summary: The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for helping to coordinate the ongoing Talk With Your Baby program as well as assisting with short term projects or events.
Specific Responsibilities include:
● Assist with coordination of TWYB classes offered through local agencies as well as those open to the public. This may include assisting with: scheduling classes, ordering and distributing materials, arranging facilitator trainings, maintaining the database of agencies and participants, and keeping track of inventory.

● Assist with development of TWYB outreach. This may include: creating/distributing publicity materials, contributing to the TWYB facebook page and web site.
● Attend and assist with implementation of TWYB classes. This may include: assisting with planning/teaching curriculum, working directly with parents and young children, and keeping necessary records.
● Assist with TWYB special events, such as Sensory Saturdays or Reading in the Park.
● Oversee and coordinate special projects as requested.
● Attend AmeriCorps meetings at the RCLC.
AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas including education by building the capacity of community organizations. These are service positions, rather than traditional “jobs”. Each member completes a required number of service hours, and will receive an education award on completion of those hours; this educaton award may be used for future education or student loans. Members also receive a monthly living allowance for the three months of the summer term, May-July.
There are both Quarter-Time and Minimum-Time summer AmeriCorps positions available with the Talk With Your Baby Program.
A Quarter-Time AmeriCorps member must complete 450 hours of service by the end of the summer. The member will serve approximately 40 hours per week for the term of service. On completion of the 450 hours, the member will receive an education award.
Compensation for a Quarter-Time member is as follows:
Living Allowance: $1555 per month (May-July)
Education Award $1,824 on completion of 450 service hours.
A Minimum-Time AmeriCorps member must complete 300 hours of service by the end of the summer. The member will serve approximately 30 hours per week for the term of service. On completion of the 300 hours, the member will receive an education award.
Compensation for a Minimum-Time member is as follows:
Living Allowance: $1243 per month (May-July)
Education Award $1,1459 on completion of 300 service hours.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- US Citizen or lawful permanent resident alien.
- Reliable transportation.

● Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
● Computer skills including GoogleSuite and Microsoft Office.

● Sensitivity, compassion, and listening skills required to work with a diverse audience including:
o RCLC staff, volunteers, and fellow AmeriCorps members
o Notre Dame and community partners
o RCLC participants, ranging in age from elementary school through senior citizens
o Neighborhood residents and families of RCLC youth
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
