SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The individual in this position is responsible for supporting the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) and Welding Workmanship programs at Phoenix. This position directly supports Phoenix welding and NDT operations through off-site, and on-site inspection services, quality assurance, and project documentation. Primary support is for our San Diego operations, but work may also include other facilities as well as operational support worldwide. This position requires little direct supervision, some travel, and fieldwork. This position reports to the San Diego NDT Supervisor for daily operations and to the NDT Manager for technical oversight.

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt (hourly)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with the Phoenix NDT Supervisor to generate project documentation.
  • Supports Quality Control of all Phoenix NDT procedures.
  • Ensures all NDT documentation is properly organized and stored to support inspections. This includes documents addressing NDT procedures and qualifications, training, qualification maintenance, and proper collection and storage of NDT program data.
  • Manages NDT related materials at Phoenix's San Diego facility and with each associated underwater ship repair system.
  • Assists NDT Supervisor with quoting NDT projects per client request, with a working understanding of the current Standard Items.
  • Works to continuously improve-in all aspects-the NDT program at Phoenix.
  • Complies with established Phoenix QMS processes and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess the ability to be trained to American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) NDT Level II (Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)) with experience in shipyard Request for Quote (RFQ) estimating.
  • Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, details, and installation drawings.
  • Familiarity with commercial, U.S. Navy, and other Government NDT instructions and military (MIL) Standards (STDs) and Specifications (SPECs).
  • A working knowledge of MIL-SPEC, MIL-STD, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and American Welding Society (AWS) codes.
  • Computer skills with competence in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organization and communication (written and verbal) skills and the ability to meet critical deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sensitivity to company proprietary information.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts with modest supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work and communicate with highly technical personnel.
  • Ability to produce detailed written reports and give oral presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint).
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain or current possession of U.S. passport.
  • Able to board vessels and willing to travel to Phoenix and client facilities as required.
  • Ability to walk unassisted and carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background check, as required.
