In our San Diego lean manufacturing facility, we produce various components that protect sensitive computer equipment from heat and vibration - primarily in the defense and aerospace industries. These components are part of our industry leading SCHROFF product line.

This position will eventually become hybrid (on average, 3 days working in plant, 2 days from home) after an initial training period.

You will create product designs and documentation for new and existing products by providing accurate 3D models, drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and other documentation to fully define products for manufacturing.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently prepares BOM's, routers and drawings on project design aspects

  • Designs components and assemblies using 3D CAD system.

  • Assists in the development of engineering, drafting and release standards

  • Participates in the product development process, including design brainstorming and voice of customer activity

  • Initiates/prepares Engineering Change Order (ECO) documentation, including the development of BOM's and routers

  • Performs required calculations to ensure all dimensions, tolerances and other specifications are correct as represented

  • Evaluates and estimates incoming engineering work and prioritizes accordingly

  • Manages projects independently

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two year technical degree preferably in drafting, design or engineering-related field

  • Ideally at least 1 year of related experience in mechanical drafting/design preferred (e.g. full/part time work, internships/co-op terms)

  • Knowledge of drafting standards and manufacturing processes

  • Knowledge of Product Data Management, ECO and Product Development Processes an asset

  • Experience using SolidWorks or related CAD software essential

  • Experience using JD Edwards or similar ERP an asset

  • Ability to utilize strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface with people across multiple functional areas

Our San Diego, CA facility is an ITAR controlled site. All candidates must be a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15.

Pay Transparency

nVent's pay scale is based on the expected range of base pay for this job and the employee's work location. Employee pay within this range will be based on a combination of factors including knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, and performance. Where federal, state, or local minimum wage requirements exist, employee pay will comply.

Compensation Range:

$59,700.00 - $110,800.00
