Reporting directly to the Director of Program Planning and Development, the Oncology Data Analytics and Project Manager will be responsible for oncology data analytics, IS governance, and project management. The project manager will provide data-driven project management and analytics for mid to large-scale, complex and strategic projects while coordinating and communicating among executive sponsors, steering committees, project team, collaborating organization and other internal and external stakeholders. This is a key position on the cancer centers' senior management team. The position involves the analysis of complex business problems using data to provide insights to decision-makers. It is expected that the successful candidate will identify and interpret trends and patterns in datasets. Subsequently, this position will develop forecasts, recommendations, and strategic/tactical plans based on business data and market knowledge.

This position works closely with the entire oncology senior executive team including nursing executives, clinical operations, radiation oncology, strategy, quality, as well as all oncology physicians. UC San Diego is a highly data driven organization and the incumbent will be the "point person" for securing, analyzing, and interpreting the vast amounts of data contained within Oncology to change and improve the quality and efficiency of care we provide to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing projects to address complex problems, performing in depth analysis of various factors to achieve strategically aligned solutions.

  • Responsible for the coordination of functional project teams, including partnering closely with subject matter experts to help gather, assess and track project deliverables. Hold project teams accountable for project timeline, deliverables, resolves issues and conflicts, and escalates issues.

  • Consults with end users to gather and clarify data and reporting needs for complex business problems, solutions, and analytics. Liaises with the UCSDH Information Services reporting team to develop reports and dashboards.

  • Performs predictive analysis and forecasting to provide information that supports organizational goals. Mines data to quantify relationships and identify issues warranting further analysis.

  • Conducts industry benchmarking analysis and develops quantitative business cases. Presents recommendations to managers.

  • Participates in developing and / or delivering metrics and curriculum for end user training to ensure user competence, data access, and optimal performance of BI tools and processes.

  • Participates in Oncology/Information Services (IS) executive committee prioritizing and overseeing implementation of Oncology / IS projects. These include, but are not limited to Epic electronic health record build modifications, expansion of Epic tools and capabilities, development of data interfaces for clinical equipment and technology.

  • Serves on other internal committees and participates on cross-functional teams to solve business, process, service and / systems issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration or related areas and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Minimum of three (3+) or more years of relevant experience in data management, analysis, and project management within healthcare, academic, or similar clinical environments. Five (5) years preferred.

  • Consistently exhibits strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage complex information, assess problems, and develop effective solutions. Strong skills in analyzing, researching, and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposal / analyses.

  • Produces high-quality reports and documentation. Distinguished presentation and data visualization to convey complex information to a variety of audiences.

  • Excellent skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are required; and willingness to learn new software and management tools as needed.

  • Consistently demonstrates knowledge of relevant internal databases, BI applications, and tools. Deep understanding of data management, database systems, and use of statistical tools and business reporting to identify trends, opportunities, and data issues.

  • Possess interpersonal human-relation skills to employ tact, diplomacy and flexibility. Ability to successfully establish and maintain positive and goal-oriented working relationships with a diverse population.

  • Exhibits strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner. Outstanding ability and skill to speak before large and small audiences with poise and confidence. Ability to convene meetings and lead discussions. Ability to effectively present to diverse groups, management levels, and stakeholders.

  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude during interaction with a wide variety of personalities in demanding situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, faculty and students, and to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Ability to apply acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments, projects, and tasks of moderate scope and complexity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in business, healthcare administration, or related areas.

  • Experience in a hospital, ambulatory, or oncology setting.

  • Experience with Epic and/or other electronic health record systems for report creation and execution.

  • Experience with project management on complex problems that involve multiple stakeholders across an organization.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $82,500 - $151,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $39.51 - $72.56

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
