Senior PR Manager

Cooley is seeking a Senior PR Manager to join the Marketing & Business Development team.

Position summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Senior PR Manager will lead media relations and PR activities across the firm's global litigation department and help elevate its brand and reputation among key external audiences. As part of a highly collaborative and supportive team, the Senior PR Manager will display strong media relations skills, proven leadership and substantive project management and writing capabilities. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

  • Work closely with firm and department leadership teams to deliver effective and impactful PR results in highly competitive spaces supporting core business development objectives
  • Ensure that the firm's highest editorial standards are consistently maintained
  • Act as a liaison between the communications and practice-group marketing teams to funnel information and proactively uncover new themes and opportunities for high impact external communications
  • Liaise with Cooley's PR agency firms (US and UK) to enable seamless flow of information, logistical planning, and positioning to optimize PR results
  • Build and nurture key reporter relationships
  • Earn and build responsibility and respect as a trusted go-to lead PR professional, including for sensitive matters and reputation management
  • Deliver media training and coaching to lawyers
  • Work on tight deadlines with multiple stakeholder groups to successfully execute on announcements, social media interactions and thought leadership opportunities to raise awareness of Cooley among target audiences
  • As a close-knit PR team, collaborate and support on additional PR requests as needed (e.g., for the business or litigation department, Pro-bono matters, broader firm initiatives)
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications, including firm marketing systems software
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 7+ years applicable experience in the field with 2+ years of exempt/management experience in relevant roles
  • Project management skills

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business or related field
  • Experience in a law firm and/or professional services PR agency environment
  • Supervisory experience

  • Ability to lead multiple projects and work with initiative and energy in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong media contacts built up and nurtured over time
  • Comprehensive, accurate note-taking and excellent proofreading skills
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, work well under pressure and coordinate sophisticated communications programs with good results
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines, including self-set and multi-tasked
  • Assertive, but flexible as to style; must be able to handle stressful situations and interact with various personalities and communication styles at all levels in the firm
  • Strong analytic and research skills
  • Exhibit high energy and genuine enthusiasm for law firm communications activities and goals while maintaining a healthy, competitive spirit
  • Experience in earning the trust and respect of high-performing senior professionals in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to develop professional relationships both internally (with department members, lawyers and firm business professionals) and externally (with industry/regional associations, etc.)
  • Reliable and punctual

Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE.

The expected annual pay range for this position is $140,000 - $195,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
