What you'll do:

The role will be responsible for directing a team of application developers and support experts that play a critical role in the development, monitoring and maintenance of banking applications used by the Juris Bank line of business at Western Alliance Bank.

The role includes a development management component. The development team supports the delivery of projects that require the build out of new capabilities. There is also a large delivery component for the team to migrate multiple products from a legacy environment to a modern enterprise environment built on an Azure technology stack.

The role also includes a large support component. These applications are expected to thrive in high availability environments with appropriate redundancies and continuities which this team will actively monitor and manage in coordination with both vendor partners and our internal IT teams. As part of these activities, the team will provide key input on business application requirements and will take the lead in testing and quality assurance and all related change management activities.


The team is also responsible for executing technical steps in client product implementation (i.e. business online banking), working in partnership with the product implementation team. The team will also be responsible for certain application configuration changes that are deemed to be in scope for this team and will play a lead role in communicating business impacts to the organization. They will monitor and manage BCP/DR test steps and execution as it specifically relates to the application and will lead in managing the schedule of such tests.

  • Build and maintain the core responsibilities and accountabilities for this team and related performance measures, KPI/KRI's
  • Recruit and develop talented individuals who are capable of understanding the business objectives, rules and regulations and are able to translate into technical application related functions and capabilities.
  • Develop a disciplined approach in vetting, implementing and monitoring any change activity as well as monitoring and communicating issues/incidents in the daily course of business.
  • Develop deep understanding of how our technology is tied together (networks, systems, vendors) and the role/responsibilities that each team plays in assuring our business is able to function at a high level of consistency and reliability.
  • Works to develop a strong understanding and relationship between business partners.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years banking experience delivering operational or technical capabilities (in IT or business line) as a service to the organization; leading application management, development, support, IT change control and change management, business process improvement, IT application management, incident management.
  • 10+ years working with internal and external stakeholders. Seeking individuals with strong customer management expertise.
  • 5+ years leading people and developing expertise to manage a scaling environment, working to develop opportunities for people from within the organization and growing a team to be a leading contributor to our future success.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities to communicate effectively in challenging situations and within various groups, teams and executive leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Masters a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of banking industry and process and technology to support banking product needs.
  • Strong knowledge of application management and change management.
  • Fundamental knowledge on technical architecture to deliver a resilient processing environment is also desired.

Compensation: Salary range for new hires is generally $152,000.00 - $187,000.00 for San Diego, CA. Salary amount is determined by specific job location. In addition, the role may be eligible for annual bonus/incentives earned and restricted stock.
