What you'll do:

The Commercial Underwriter III role is responsible for underwriting and portfolio management of existing and prospective commercial client relationships. Credits in the portfolio are principally underwritten on a cash flow basis with a mix of investment grade and non-investment grade equivalent credits. The position includes both new transaction approvals as well as ongoing credit monitoring activities. This position will cover a Commercial & Industrial portfolio of Companies with Revenues >$20MM and will include general and specialized industry coverage.

What we are looking for:

  • Analyzing transactions as part of the screening and underwriting process; including business rationale, cash flow projection, financial, business overview, industry, management, key risks, covenant analysis, and repayment analysis.

  • Assessing new credit request, balance risk/return and make justifiable recommendations

  • Underwrite new credit request, amendments and annual reviews through the internal approval process with risk partners

  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the industries and an assigned portfolio of clients

  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the full spectrum of banking products

  • Develop and maintain an understanding of internal credit policies and procedures

  • Participate in credit due diligence with clients

  • Establish appropriate internal risk ratings for clients and implement accurate risk rating adjustments throughout the life of the loan

  • Manage ongoing portfolio monitoring routines including periodic financial assessment, covenant compliance and amendment activity over life of a loan

  • Participate in team specific and enterprise wide strategic projects to support business goals, operational excellence, and simplify and improve initiatives

  • Train, mentor and developindividuals on the team

  • Drive responsible growth, portfolio asset quality and speed to market

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four (4) year college or university, and 6-9 years or more years related experience and/or training

  • Able to soundly manage a commercial credit portfolio and justify rationale for recommended transactions

  • Must have ability tomanage transactions, possess strong credit skills and transaction experience, and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively

  • Robust understanding of corporate finance and accounting concepts

  • Requires effective time management and ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Solid negotiating, communication and presentation skills

Compensation: Salary range for new hires is generally $142,184.00 - $175,356.00 for San Diego, CA. Salary amount is determined by specific job location. In addition, the role may be eligible for annual bonus/incentives earned and restricted stock.
