Marketing Content Specialist

Cooley is seeking a Marketing Content Specialist to join the Marketing & Business Development team.

Position summary: Under the direction of the Marketing Content Manager, the Marketing Content Specialist will take the lead on specific marketing content projects, provide high-level assistance on major initiatives to assess and improve the firm's standard marketing content, and support the team's infrastructure. As a member of the marketing content team, this role will support the development of uniform and evergreen marketing collateral and materials used to promote the firm's strengths; assist with standardizing, centralizing and maintaining those materials; and establish systems and tools that help ensure consistency and accuracy in the materials developed across the firm. This role will work closely with the digital marketing, thought leadership, pitches & proposals and creative teams, as well as the marketing department at large and other administrative teams. Work is defined by the goals, objectives and policies of the department and the practices. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

  • Draft and edit marketing materials, including but not limited to firm, department, practice and matter descriptions, fact sheets and one-pagers, biographies, "standard" materials and templates, placemats and short-form video
  • Collaborating with the Marketing Content Manager, champion marketing content projects from start to finish, with appropriate and clear communication around project status and changes to project plan
  • Develop and implement marketing content processes and strategies to improve the quality of materials across the department and firm
  • Initiate and collaborate on ideas to enhance the firm's marketing content materials, including by participating in conversations to innovate on new concepts and systems
  • Assist with maintenance of firmwide marketing materials and templates in a centralized self-serve portal; maintenance of repository of completed projects; and oversee maintenance tasks carried out by team as applicable
  • Guide department, lawyers and team on best practices for marketing content materials
  • Prepare reports to evaluate the marketing content team's successes and opportunities, including by tracking and analyzing all requests and completed materials
  • Maintain accurate language and descriptions for marketing materials, leveraging Foundation, Frontify and other firm platforms/resources; this will involve collaboration with practice group marketing team and other firm departments, as needed
  • Coordinate the final production of marketing materials, including checking all materials for grammar, spelling and compliance with firm style; become deeply knowledgeable about Cooley style and educate others on it to help ensure the firm's editorial standards are upheld
  • Collaborate with the creative team, freelance writers and copy editors to develop, edit and maintain marketing content that aligns with Cooley's brand and adheres to our style guide
  • Assess and process requests for marketing materials that come in through an intake form
  • Effectively communicate across various marketing teams to set expectations, understand needs and deliver final products; become a trusted go-to professional for Cooley partners and firm leaders
  • Support strategic growth and development of the marketing content vertical
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills & experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications, including firm marketing systems software
  • Available to work overtime, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 4+ years direct applicable marketing experience
  • Strong writer. Expertise in copy editing and strong proofing skills; detailed knowledge of AP style guide

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communication, marketing, journalism or related field
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment, preferably with a strong background in marketing, communications and/or business development
  • Working knowledge of professional services industries
  • Experience with analysis and reporting

The expected hourly pay range for this position is $32.00 - $45.00. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
