HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Library Intern will gain experience in collection maintenance and management while working in a special library committed to serving the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Conservation Research center In our commitment to saving species worldwide.

Throughout the internship you will participate in regularly scheduled learning events with leading subject matter experts and specialized tour experiences at both the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park where you will learn about the various specializations within the field of Zoology.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Assist with processing and cataloging new acquisitions, gaining familiarity with the Library of Congress classification system and Library World ILS, book wrapping, and procedures.
• Re-shelve, shelf-read, relabel, and assess book condition, identifying and documenting books requiring repair.
• Learn to use a bibliographic citation management program, including multiple methods for importing, exporting, duplicate detection, and assist with entering new citations into our Staff Publications Database.
• Gain familiarity with OCLC World Share ILL, assist with inter-library loan requests.
• Assist with archive processing back logs, creating finding aids, and improving organization.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• JOB EXPERIENCE
  • Six months to a year working in a public or school library as a page or aid is preferred.
  • Six Months customer service experience preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

• EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Some college-level courses preferred.

• SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Attention to detail required.
  • Ability to work independently required.
  • Ability to learn new skills/tasks required.
