Practice Technology Project Leader

Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Responsible for the oversight and implementation of firmwide BIM and advancing design technologies to support continuous process improvement, promote innovation and deliver the highest quality of work to clients. Supports a global vision for the application of BIM and design technologies at HED by identifying trends and evolving topics within support and improvement requests. Coaches staff and effectively embodies the firm's values and mission. Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of practices and procedures to complete assignments with originality and ingenuity.


TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Actively works with project managers to support the project team in the development of BIMs for projects from concept through construction administration
  • Implements current design technology strategy and assists in revising as appropriate for project requirements
  • Acts as the primary interface between project management teams and Practice Technology resources
  • Coordinates implementation of project execution plan with project teams including clients, consultants, construction managers, general contractors, and trade disciplines
  • Coordinates Project Kickoff meetings with project manager and participates in project coordination meetings as required
  • Coordinates with HED Practice Leaders and Project Management teams to ensure BIM production efforts meet firmwide design and quality standards
  • Enforces organizational best practices and prerequisite skills to ensure compliance with established firmwide standards for design excellence
  • Works alongside HED Practice Leaders and Project Management to monitor and assess quality of BIMs, and performance of staff in the production of quality work products
  • Engages with project teams for limited engagements on project specific work
  • Provides feedback on project-based activities to the Practice Technology team
  • Assists in maintaining and creating firm-wide documentation, procedures, and standards
  • Possesses complete knowledge of Practice Technology best practices, firmwide standards and expectations for design excellence
  • Assists in the creation and development of best practices, firmwide standards and expectations for design excellence
  • Contributes to defining the overall direction for BIM within the firm
  • Implements continuous improvement initiatives and best practices across projects
  • Acts as a mentor to team members by providing guidance, feedback, QA/QC, and direction on modeling and delivery methodologies
  • Resolves conflict effectively and encourages a healthy team environment
  • Provides leadership, direction and feedback to team members and collaborates with project leaders
  • Applies skills to minimize risks, maximize value and seeks means to improve efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Travel may be required for industry events.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accredited professional degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field, advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in an Engineering related practice; Additionally, 5+ years with Autodesk Revit and BIM Management preferred
  • Expert knowledge of and proven practical experience in AEC authoring and management applications including Autodesk (Revit, Navisworks Manage, and BIM 360), Rhino, Sketchup and their API interfaces
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred
  • Familiarity with environmental analysis applications such as Sefaira, Insight360, Lady Bug Tools, Fenestra Pro, WUFI, and IES preferred
  • Familiarity with building analysis applications such as IES-VE, EDSA, SKM or other analytical modeling software preferred.
  • Strong understanding of legacy CAD applications and practices, primarily AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of building detailing, construction principles and practices
  • Proven ability to produce quality construction documents
  • Proven ability to deliver business change through the innovative use of data and technology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff
  • Strong work ethic and eagerness to produce high quality, accurate results
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to manage teams with diplomatic and collaborative leadership style, which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise and professional manner, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to proactively problem solve and apply innovative solutions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • Capable of traveling to and from project sites for attending client, project and construction meetings.
  • Ability to access existing and new project sites for observation, investigation and evaluation purposes.
  • Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes.
  • Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
