THE POSITION

Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time 10-month tenure-track position teaching Biological Science courses including but not limited to Biology and Biotechnology. Duties associated with the position include participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, committee work, student activities, office hours, student learning outcomes and assessment, curriculum/instructional development and program review. Assignment may include teaching courses during day and evening hours including weekends and at the feeder high schools. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.

 

Required Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in any biological science, OR

Bachelor's degree in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

Valid California Community College Credential in appropriate subject.

All candidates must demonstrate:

Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Recent community college teaching experience.

Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.

Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles.

Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Full-time related professional experience in biotechnology.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

SALARY RANGE: $60,431 - $89,569 (depending upon education and experience)

 

The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available, toward which the College and the employee may contribute.

 

Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.

Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Full-time, tenure-track teaching position effective August 20, 2024. INTERVIEW EXPENSES
