Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population.

The Director is a seasoned professional who is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the Academic Advising, and Transfer department. The Director is a thoughtful, strategic, and highly motivated leader, with strong technology, communication, and supervisory skills. The Director must be able to successfully coordinate multiple competing priorities and collaborate productively with key stakeholders at the college. Responsibilities include overall supervision of the Advising team members, and direct supervision of various NUP, MCCC, and AFSME staff within the department. The Director ensures comprehensive professional development and training for team members, establishes clear and equitable advising practices within the department, and creates a welcoming environment for all community members.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Supervise team members, schedule staff, and coordinate the daily operations of the department to ensure that student needs are being met;
  • In close collaboration with the Vice President of Student Development and the Assistant Dean of Advising Resources and Technology, manage a strategic plan, including assessment of services, for the department for case management and comprehensive advising;
  • In close collaboration with the Vice President of Student Development, oversee the SUCCESS initiative;
  • Oversee and implement the advisor assignment process based on a case management model;
  • Develop and implement a training curriculum providing tools/resources for academic advisors;
  • Manage and forecast the departmental budget;
  • Report outcomes regularly to appropriate college personnel;
  • Manage the system for approval of course substitutions and waivers and placement testing waivers;
  • Assess curricular needs and report projections of necessary course sections to Academic Affairs leadership team;
  • Assist in the coordination of the college orientation and advising program for new students;
  • Work closely with Enrollment Services departments including Financial Aid, Admissions, and the Office of the Registrar to streamline processes, including but not limited to such as SAP, add/drop, and onboarding;
  • Oversee the areas of transfer and articulation, selective program advising, academic probation advising, and incoming transfer credit evaluation;
  • Ensure compliance within the department with college policies and curricula;
  • Guide the department through peak enrollment and advising periods;
  • Handle various student situations with sensitivity and professionalism and use judgment to ascertain the need to escalate issues;
  • Lead weekly staff meetings and manage an internal communication process to ensure that staff are knowledgeable and confident in expectations, updates, and processes;
  • Attend relevant conferences, research trends in advising, coaching, and transfer services;
  • Serve as a member of the Student Services and Enrollment Taskforce, People SuperUsers, President’s Council, Section Enrollment Monitoring, and other committees;
  • Utilize PeopleSoft, the college’s student information system, EAB navigate TracCloud and other advising technology on a daily basis, and work with IT and the
  • Assistant Dean of Advising Resources and Technology to improve and implement system upgrades, and identify and solve internal end-user issues;
  • Represent the department at various college events and deliver presentations regarding departmental services.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 6-8 years of management experience in higher education;
  • Must demonstrate progressive and broad experience in academic advising and administration;
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of first-year student development, transfer processes, higher education curricular management, and budget management;
  • Possess excellent leadership and problem-solving skills; the ability to develop, motivate, and manage staff; a strong understanding of, and proficiency with, technology; demonstrated success collaborating within all levels of the institution;
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in academic advising-related administration;
  • A strong commitment to student service.

Salary Range:
 $100,000.00 - 110,000.00 Annual Salary
