ABOUT THE BUSINESS INNOVATION CENTER (BIC)

The Business Innovation Center's work is grounded in RCC's deep knowledge of and commitment to Roxbury and Greater Boston's communities of color. BIC's activities will evolve as needs, resources, and objectives evolve, the following are three core pillars that guide all work: education and training; research and policy; partnerships and practice. The Business Innovation Center (BIC) serves as an essential hub for Roxbury and Greater Boston's entrepreneurs and innovators of color. The Center is a college-wide resource for students, faculty, staff, and the wider public. RCC's enduring commitment to its students and the wider community extends well beyond the classroom, and the BIC will serve as a vehicle to foster and harness creativity, entrepreneurial skills, and innovative thinking.

BIC DIRECTOR POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of the Business Innovation Center (BIC) leads the planning for and implementation of programs, partnerships, and strategic initiatives; oversees the Center's program managers and administrative staff; leads fundraising and resource development effort. The Director plans, designs, and implements strategies to improve and expand the Center's programs, including online and hybrid programs and customized training. In addition, the Director markets new and existing offerings to prospective businesses. The Director develops and implements continuous improvement strategies to ensure that services are efficient, effective, high quality, and customer centered and advances the College's marketing efforts by representing the College at community and business events.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead program development and implementation.
  • Provide oversight and leadership ensuring all center operations run efficiently.
  • Support entrepreneurship training and new business and economic development for Roxbury Community College.
  • Expand the information, training, and experience of students who might be better served as entrepreneurs, expand a home community-based or family-based business, or move to digital marketing.
  • Provide an essential resource for the college to link directly to career paths and entrepreneurial opportunities for the students we serve.
  • Provide an on-campus incubator for student business ideas available outside the traditional university calendar.
  • Enhance RCC's research capability to collect, analyze, and report meaningful qualitative data.
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor and evaluate program performance.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with employers and community organizations to mine training opportunities.
  • Write and implement grants for programs in areas of high demand that meet the needs of the community and employers.
  • Ensure that programs maximize revenue and minimize expenses to the College where applicable.
  • Collaborate with the marketing department and staff to develop marketing collateral and social media to promote the Center's programs.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise course instructors.
  • Collaborate with the CESJ Executive Director to develop and manage a budget for all BIC programs and operations.
  • Any other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department, and the college.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience with business development programs, including grant-funded programs
  • Ability to build and manage strong relationships with community and business partners.
  • Experience with grant writing and grant management
  • Excellent written, oral, and people skills
  • Experience with data management and analysis and committed to continuous quality improvement and diligence.
  • Demonstrated a positive and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing projects.
  • Fluency in languages other than English is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the public business development system.
  • Skilled in Microsoft computer applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint Experience in:
    • Project Management
    • Staff Supervision
    • Conflict Resolution

Additional Information:


Salary Range
: $90-000- $100,000.00 annually, actually salary commensurate with experience. This position is funded through a five-year federal grant from the US Department of Education's Predominantly Black Institution's Grants Division. RCC is currently in year two of the grant.

Location: Roxbury campus with travel to off-campus events as needed

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire, flexible schedule required, including nights and weekends. this position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
