ABOUT THE CENTER FOR ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL JUSTICE (CESJ)

The Center for Economic and Social Justice (CESJ) is an exciting new center established in 2023 to focus on the economic and social justice related issues facing communities of color. The Center will provide a space for community convenings, training, research and policy conversations that lead toward collaborative problem-solving and solutions. CESJ will focus on wealth and racial equity ensuring students and community members have access to industry opportunity jobs that currently do not reflect racially diverse populations. The Center will engage in civic engagement, research, policy, and reporting opportunities to ensure forward mobility for generations of BIPOC communities.

The CESJ will collaborate with local organizations ensuring students can gain hands-on academic and workforce development experience by helping low-income property owners adapt their properties for greater energy efficiency and affordability. In addition, the CESJ will work to develop a social justice lens for every learning opportunity. Engaged community members who become knowledgeable about their strengths and the potential of their abilities become powerful advocates for their children, youth, and families. Civic engagement opportunities will enhance the potential for student success.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director of The Center for Economic and Social Justice (CESJ) will have the opportunity to implement the strategic goals of the CESJ developing an implementation action plan. Under the direction of the President or the President's designee the executive director leads all activities of the Center including: fundraising; resource development; partnership and program planning and implementation; operational oversight; training, entrepreneurship and workforce development; civic engagement, and social justice related programs, convenings on climate, environmental and social policy discourse that leads to solution seeking on matters related to the wealth gap within communities of color, equity and justice related issues.

This position leads and manages the identification, development and submission of funding opportunities that support the vision for the Center and the College. The Executive Director will work with academic and non-academic deans and institutional leaders to bring about programming that incites change and economic development to communities of color. The ED identifies, communicates, and supports access to resources that support students, faculty, staff, alums, and the external community. The Executive Director assists all areas of the College to engage in climate, environmental and social justice and economic development opportunities and discourse aimed at shifting the trajectory for BIPOC communities and neighborhoods. The position is responsible for establishing the systems and processes that ensure programming and community success and viability. The position is expected to interact with corporations, potential donors, college administrators, faculty, community and legislative leaders, staff, and community members facilitating planning, training, and development activities. It is also the expectation that the position will represent the College in a positive manner within interactions with external and internal constituents.

JOB DUTIES & Responsibilities

  • Fundraising and resource development to ensure financial stability, growth, and expansion of the Center. Work with the RCC Foundation and other leadership members to develop fund-raising strategies including planned giving, employee giving, alumni, corporate, annual appeals, and fund-raising events related to the development of the Center for Economic and Social Justice.
  • Program planning and implementation. Training development and management
  • Support and guidance to staff, faculty, and leadership
  • Database development, management, and administration
  • Employer prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship of supported employer programs
  • Student, Faculty, and Staff Support on projects that ultimately lead to radical change in the economic and social justice arena.
  • Oversight of the Business Innovation Center
  • Identify and cultivate community relationships including corporate, grassroots organizations, nonprofits, and others that want to embark on changing the wealth gap, equity, and inclusion structures.
  • Support all operational and management activities of the Center. Work with leadership to ensure timely completion of necessary reporting and financial records.
  • Work closely with the Business Office to determine appropriate College tracking of resources obtained for the Center. Manage and grow database systems.
  • Develop and coordinate information and required reports for Board of Trustees, the Foundation Board, and all funding parties.
  • Create, post, and maintain media content for the Center's website and its social media outlets in close coordination with the College's Communications and Marketing Office.
  • Work in collaboration with other RCC departments, community partners, and all RCC constituencies as needed to ensure an excellent collaborative experience internally and externally.
  • Ensure and manage recognition and acknowledgment of students, faculty, staff, and community members contributing to the Center.
  • Prepare written materials and documents as required for promotion and outreach of Center programs.
  • Work efficiently and communicate effectively with other College departments and personnel.
  • Represent the College at external related events.
  • Professional Participation and Handling of Confidential Information In addition to the essential duties listed above, the Executive Director responsibilities will also include:
  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies.
  • Serve on assigned committees and task forces.
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings.
  • Any other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department and the college.

All duties may involve attending evening or weekend events. This position is required to maintain currency in the position's required fields of professional expertise and competencies including computer skills and other bodies of knowledge required for job proficiency. In addition, this position is required to maintain strict confidentiality of student and other college constituencies' records and other materials or information of a confidential or sensitive nature.



Job Requirements:

 

  • Master's degree in a related field with 3-5 years experience.
  • Experience in fundraising and resource development.
  • Excellent verbal-written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, utilizing Constant Contact, database management systems. Experience with Donor Perfect software (or equivalent) and social media is necessary.
  • Experience with presentation software is a plus.
  • Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to handle large amounts of information with accuracy and must be detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a culturally and ethnically diverse work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact favorably with external constituents, alumni, partners, administrators, staff, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must have a valid driver's license. Fluency in languages other than English is a plus.


Additional Information:


Salary Range: $145,000 - $150,000 annually; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience. Employees of Roxbury Community College are considered employees of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and receive benefits that include:

Location: Roxbury campus with travel to off-campus events as needed

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire, this position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
