President & Incoming CEO
Job Description
At Fistula Foundation, we believe that no woman should live a life of misery and isolation, simply for trying to bring a child into the world. We strive every day to end the suffering of women injured in childbirth — and to ensure that no woman is left behind.
We have a vision to bring the suffering caused by fistula to an end in all countries where this condition persists today. We call this vision In It to End It. In early 2023, Fistula Foundation launched a five-year, $110 million plan that will accelerate progress toward this vision. Under this plan, we will reach and serve women with obstetric fistula on a scale that equals the urgency of their suffering. From 2023 to 2027, Fistula Foundation will expand the provision of life-transforming surgeries in more than 20 countries, while also building the infrastructure needed to make the scourge of fistula a relic of the past.
Today, we seek to appoint a deeply experienced, globally minded leader who will zealously drive revenue growth in support of this ambitious plan. This leader will relish the challenge of finding and tapping new sources of financial support for our mission to eradicate the suffering caused by fistula.
Fistula Foundation operates essentially as a bridge: a span that connects generous donors, on one side, to dedicated partners that deliver fistula surgeries to women in need, on the other side. Our success on the fundraising side—powered by energetic leadership—enables transformative healing on the program side.
In connection with the planned retirement of current CEO Kate Grant in 2024, the Foundation is seeking a President who will work alongside the outgoing CEO, Board, and staff to ensure a smooth transition, culminating in the President assuming the role of CEO.
The President is a new position that will provide the leadership to catalyze robust revenue growth in order to achieve the Foundation’s ambition to end—within a generation—the suffering caused by fistula. In collaboration with the Board, the current CEO, and dedicated team members, the President will lead the Foundation’s fundraising, communications, and operating strategy with the goal of generating new financial resources from donors across all giving levels. The President will empower a talented team and nurture an entrepreneurial internal culture, while continuing to build the Foundation’s capacity to support its partners and the disenfranchised communities they serve.
We are seeking a proven, dynamic, and entrepreneurial leader with demonstrable experience of driving revenue growth. You will bring proven experience inspiring a highly capable, diverse, and geographically dispersed team and the strategic leadership skills to drive our future mission and strategy. You will bring a deep commitment to the need to alleviate human suffering and improve the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable women throughout the world.
To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfill the role description and personal specification quoting reference 6970. The deadline for applications is Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Midnight PST.
The role will be based in San Jose, California. Fistula Foundation believes that its work is enhanced by a diversity of thought and perspectives. Fistula Foundation offers a generous, comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, a 403b match, and a significant vacation plan that begins accruing at the start of employment. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $250,000 - $300,000. Actual base salary will be dependent on an individual’s skills, experiences, and qualifications.
Fistula Foundation, as an organization dedicated to health equity, has long valued and advanced inclusion in its organizational structure and operations, as well as in the design, development, and implementation of its programs. It knows that diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace are essential to bringing onboard the rich variety of perspectives and talents that it needs to confront complex challenges and to succeed in its mission. The Foundation considers gender equality to be a fundamental human right and it takes seriously its responsibility to work toward its fulfillment. Fistula Foundation also recognizes that restrictive gender norms undermine other fundamental rights, including the right to good health, which lies at the core of its mission.
