General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Dean of Continuing Education, the Senior Director Workforce Solutions provides leadership and oversight of non-credit and non-program credit workforce-related courses offered through the Continuing Education Division. The Senior Director is responsible for ensuring collaboration and helping to develop new opportunities with internal and external teams that impact workforce activities in the college’s service area. The Senior Director provides direction for hiring and onboarding instructors and staff, as well as, supervises workforce development activities, and serves as a liaison in college affairs. Hours of work for this position are generally 8:00-5:00 pm M-F but could include occasional evening hours or weekend hours if needed. This is a full-time regular position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervise the Workforce Solutions Team and Adjunct Faculty
Hire and train team members and work with the team to recruit, hire, and train adjunct
faculty. Ensure that personnel records and vendor paperwork are submitted within the established time frame. Coach/mentor personnel and conduct staff appraisals. Assign salaries and initiate payroll for adjuncts. Assist with ensuring adjuncts receive orientation and are ready to facilitate quality training.
Program Management
In partnership with the SCC’s Office of Work-based Learning, Program Development, academic programs, as well as, external entities to determine workforce training demand. This includes collaboration, program development, and management of staff in the creation of short-term training such as open-to-the-public classes, customized training, workshops, seminars, conferences, distance learning, and video/teleconferences offered by the division. This also includes activities that help bridge noncredit education to academic programs, through the support of micro- pathways to credentials. Develop, plan, evaluate, assess, and lead workforce development and continuing education programming to meet the needs of organizations, businesses, and industry. Ensure quality education and training that aligns with local business and industry initiatives. Foster continuous improvement by utilizing data including metric analysis and continuing education benchmarks. Develop, manage, and control annual department budgets by reviewing and maintaining sound fiscal responsibilities. Initiate and maintain reports and statistics as needed to justify and support programming activities. Supervise division operations during assigned evening and weekend hours. Work with team members and SCC’s Marketing and Communications Department to develop the right marketing mix to promote SCC and workforce development activities.
Strategic Planning
Work with the division Leadership Team and the Workforce Solutions Team to develop division and department goals. Assist with strategic annual completion and outcome reporting.
Professional Development
Participate in activities locally, regionally, and nationally relevant to workforce development to stay current and assist the College in responsiveness to external stakeholders. Determine training needs of team and adjuncts and support team and adjuncts with ongoing professional development.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain inventory of program equipment.
  • Identify the availability of grants and similar sources of outside funding and, as appropriate, apply for such funds.
  • Serve as a member of the Continuing Education Division Leadership Team.
  • Participate in college activities as assigned.
  • Collect and account for monies received by the division as required.
  • Appear at meetings and luncheons or on television, radio, etc., as requested to promote the program.
  • Work with adjunct instructors, SMEs and Workforce Solutions staff for training solution development.
  • May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  • Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedule (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based upon the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days and work locations may vary depending upon the needs of Southeast Community College and subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGESKILLSAND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and experience of program planning, management, and motivating employees, as well as, recruiting, screening, interviewing, hiring, supervising, and evaluating instructors.
  • Ability to create and monitor a budget of over $1,000,000 by using sound accounting principles. Ability to control, manage, and plan fiscal operations.
  • Understand, appreciate, and support the Community College Mission.
  • Ability and skills to relate to colleagues, staff, customers, and supervisors of diverse backgrounds in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Ability to write and supervise the writing of curriculum.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and schedule courses.
  • Ability to organize and direct group dynamics for the purpose of participating on planning committees, budget preparation, and other assigned activities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to (50) fifty pounds for short distances, and move tables, chairs, and media equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  • The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

SCHEDULE

Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. The usual work hours for this position are generally scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a 40-hour workweek. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of the College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek. This is a full-time regular position based on a 260-day work calendar.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, Training and Development, or a related field of study.
  • Three (3) years* of work and supervisory experience related to this assignment in a workforce training and/or Career & Technical Education environment.

 

  • Master’s degree may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, Training and Development or a related field of study.
  • Experience in project management.

Salary
$56,363
