Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Mental Health Emergency Assessment and Response Team (MHEART) program is an innovative and comprehensive approach to managing mental health emergencies on campus. As a part of this team, the MHEART clinician will partner with the campus police and lead the response to mental health emergencies on campus after business hours. Housed within the Counseling Center as far as administrative and clinical supervision is concerned, the MHEART team will have offices within the University of Maryland Police Department (UMPD) and function as a first responder to mental health emergencies on and off-campus along with the police.

In partnership with UMPD, the MHEART clinicians will provide immediate mental health crisis response and intervention to UMDs students, who are experiencing mental health crises or have been victims of crimes and in need of mental health support after hours. Positions may include both in-person and on-call periods where clinicians would need to be able to report to campus within a half hour. Our MHEART program is one of the first mobile crisis co-responder programs in a university setting in the United States.
