Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Instructional Technologist/Media Production works collaboratively with faculty and staff to develop course content and support faculty developing online programs at the Smith School of Business. As a member of a dynamic and highly skilled team, this individual will assist with video production and editing, as well as managing physical studio spaces. In addition, this individual may coach others on the use of various education technologies, including, but not limited to, presentation, podcasting, screen and video capture, and interactive multimedia. This includes support for academic courses, self-paced learning modules, audio/video components, and other training resources for faculty, staff, and students. We are looking for an efficient and organized individual who can leverage cutting-edge instructional technology principles to support strong learning outcomes for learners.

  • Instructional Technology Support:
    • Works collaboratively and effectively with faculty and staff throughout the School to leverage new and existing technologies supporting the creation of online course content.
    • Assists in effective implementation of instructional technology features within the learning management system.
    • Assists faculty with the implementation and troubleshooting of their Canvas course sites; provide basic support for Canvas and other learning technologies
    • Monitors ticketing system (Freshdesk); responds to or escalates faculty questions and requests in a timely manner.
    • Assists in enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational technology innovations into the curriculum.
    • Consults with faculty to develop instructional technologies for activities such as evaluation, presentation, live meetings, streaming video and learning management tools.
    • Creates documentation on various instructional technologies that support the instructional mission of the school.
    • Generates activity reports as well as coordinates and documents projects.
  • Media Production
    • Works collaboratively with the Media Production team to support all aspects of digital asset creation to support teaching and learning.
    • Assists in the maintenance and operation of physical studio spaces including scheduling, camera operation, lighting, audio, teleprompting, and basic direction. Understanding of best practices in studio setup, recording, and asset management. Ability to troubleshoot related hardware and software issues.
    • Supports Digital Media team in pre- and post-production tasks to include planning, scripting, and storyboarding, transcription and captions.
    • Consults with faculty, Instructional Designers, and other stakeholders on best practices in capturing and creating engaging digital content.
    • Coordinates with video, graphics, and Instructional Design personnel to leverage rich media and input these into the learning management system.
    • Ability to edit video and audio, create basic animations related content using Adobe Creative Cloud (Premier, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator)
    • Organization and storage of Digital Media assets
    • Supports live events/classes that may run evenings or weekends; schedule flexibility a must.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional or Educational Technology or related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of relevant work experience as an Instructional Technologist, Instructional Developer or Multimedia Designer OR
  • Master’s degree in Instructional or Educational Technology or related field from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of relevant work experience as an Instructional Technologist, Instructional Developer or Multimedia Designer.

Experience:
  • Demonstrable video production and editing experience is a required.
  • Experience with proprietary learning technology solutions and learning management systems.
  • Experience with computerized systems.
  • Experience with video production tasks including camera operation, video and audio editing, effects, branding and file compression.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud software
  • Experience with various e-learning authoring software/tools.
  • Experience in collaborating with teams and clients to manage expectations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Highly proficient computer skills to include MS Office Suite and learning management systems.
  • Ability to learn new technologies
  • Proficient English-language verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, superior organizational skills, self-direction, and motivation are a must.
  • Driven by standards of excellence and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet strict deadlines.

  • Proficient in HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe After Effects
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction: exceptional skills in collaboration, communication, customer support, and time management.
  • Experience using and supporting a wide variety of animation and multimedia development tools such as Final Cut Pro, Audacity, Camtasia, Kaltura, SlideShare, and PowToon.
  • Demonstrated expertise in or proclivity for learning tools such as Captivate and Storyline to create sophisticated adaptive learning content.
