Position Summary

The Adult Education Department is recruiting for a full-time Instructional & Curriculum Lead for
EL-Civics.  This position is responsible for overseeing the instructional coaching of instructors in the Victoria College Adult Education Program; scheduling professional development activities; assisting with successful class preparations and delivery; collecting and filing documentation from instructors.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Serves as Instruction and Curriculum Lead for the EL-Civics contract and assists in the development, delivery, documentation and maintenance of adult education classes.
  2. Serves as instructional coach and oversees instruction of adults in the following areas: English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult Secondary Education (ASE), Distance Learning, Workforce Skills Development, Transition to employment and/or Post-Secondary Education
  3. Conducts classroom observations and makes recommendations for professional development activities.
  4. Conducts frequent teacher meetings and/or on-boarding to ensure curriculum alignment and clear objectives across classes.
  5. Acts as a mentor teacher for part-time instructional staff and ensures appropriate resources are available for effective instruction. 
  6. Ensures implementation of holistic, learner-participatory instruction that addresses learners’ needs, abilities, and learning styles
  7. Submits required reports that are accurate and turned in by dates as set by college policy/procedures
  8. Assists with class scheduling and securing appropriate instructors.
  9. Locates substitutes and/or teaches, as needed.
  10. Serves on hiring committees, as needed.
  11. Maintains communication with Director to request materials, ensure accurate record keeping, and to fulfill professional development requirements.
  12. Supports and coordinates with all adult education staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • 3 years teaching experience required; 
  • Teaching certification preferred;
  • Intermediate computer skills;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills;
  • Discretionary judgment regarding confidential information;
  • Ability to accomplish manage a flexible schedule and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups
  • Willingness to work evening hours and flexible schedule to meet program demands is required

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as, sit, stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds while loading office supplies and paper. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
