Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Qualifications for Employment

Education (Minimum Requirements):
Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years relevant experience that demonstrates ability to perform job functions.

Employment Experience Preferred:
Master’s Degree.
Supervision experience
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with multicultural and low-income populations;
Employment experience within higher education.

Pertinent Other:
Broad range of knowledge of academic vocational programs;
Familiarity with higher education, the Social Service system, and case management techniques;
Familiarity with computer applications, particularly word processing, Internet, and Excel;
Demonstrated verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, ability to work well with others and as part of a team, patience, persuasive and a congenial personality.
Ability to conduct presentations to the community, employers, colleges, and students.

Nature and Scope of Duties

The Assistant Coordinator Student Services – College and Career Services reports to the Coordinator of Student Services and performs the following duties:

Under the direction of the coordinator, provides administrative and management of departmental functions as assigned;

Supervises other staff as assigned;

Works in conjunction with the coordinator and center staff in efforts to achieve program performance standards;

Works in consort, collaboratively, and cooperatively with other staff to achieve the objectives of the department;

Prepares an annual departmental plan of objectives, activities and outcomes to be achieved. Communicates the strategies and assignments relative to the execution of this plan to staff assigned. Monitors, tracks and documents plan implementation and performance;

Designs, plans, schedules, organizes, coordinates, and oversees departmental functions and activities as assigned;

Ensures timely execution of all departmental activities and functions assigned;

Identifies and purchases materials appropriate to departmental activities and functions;

Assists the coordinator and other center staff with marketing of departmental activities, promoting EOC programs and services, and building a positive public image for the center;

Conducts college and employment related presentations to the community, employers, colleges, and students;

Serves as a liaison for center with external constituents in matters related to college and career services;

Makes direct contact with employers and/or college personnel in efforts to achieve student placement. Such contact may include: contacting potential employers to solicit job openings; developing and monitoring internships; working with college staff in matters relative to college admission, enrollment, financial aid, and/or retention; and following/up on student placement;

Responds to calls and inquiries from community, employers, colleges, and students;

Attends area job and college fairs and other related programs;

Provides individual and group orientations/presentations;

Works directly with students relative to employment or college placement objectives providing: assessment, individual employment/college/career plans, coaching, support, assistance, follow-up, retention support, and/or referral as needed;

Works directly with individuals in constructing and/or completing employment and or college placement materials such as resumes, cover letters, portfolios, employment or college applications, financial aid, college essays, etc.;

Works to appropriately and effectively match individuals to placement;

Conducts post-placement follow up and reporting. Follow-up could include visits to placement sites;

Provides support to individuals who do not retain employment or college placement by providing assistance in an effort to secure re-enrollment and/or further employment or college placement;

Participates in center and departmental special programs and oversees and/or manages special programs assigned;

Provides department related services to community members as directed or needed;

Maintains thorough records of contact, placement and follow-up;

Completes appropriate placement documentation for student files and electronic record storage;

Projects a professional appearance and a positive, service-oriented attitude in all interactions with community, employers and students;

Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

This is a full-time 12-month Management Confidential position with a salary of $50,000.00
