The Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness will collect, manage, analyze, organize, and interpret internal and external data to support institution-wide evidence-informed institutional planning and assessment, decision making, policy formation, and institutional reporting. Provide analysis and interpretation in reports to a variety of College audiences. Manage the submission of required SUNY (SIRIS), NY State, federal (i.e. IPEDS), MSCHE, grant, and other external reporting. Occasional meetings at different SUNY CCC locations and in the community may be required; travel to conferences and/or recruiting events may be required. Essential Functions

 

Data Management & Analysis - 40%
  • Provide leadership and vision for the collection, management, analysis, interpretation, use, and dissemination of College data for internal and external purposes.
  • Provide and supervise the analysis of essential information and data used to establish and address institutional priorities, assess institutional performance, and improve institutional outcomes.
  • Inform stakeholders on use of peer comparison, benchmarking, key performance indicators, and other metrics and performance measures.
  • Assist in the development of research as it relates to enrollment planning, program development, academic program review, and strategic planning.
  • Present findings to appropriate leadership units.
  • Develop and provide data in support of the grant application process and grants management, including status reporting and compliance reporting.
  • Provide support to planning groups engaged in accreditation processes.
  • Supervise college-wide surveys including development, administration, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of results.
  • Help stakeholders refine research questions and data requests for ad hoc data based on scope, purpose, and available data.

Reporting - 40%

  • Designs, writes, and validates complex queries for data extraction.
  • Supervise, compile, and report data that is required for SUNY, NY State, and federal requirements.
  • Serve as the College’s liaison to SUNY Institutional Research.
  • Serve as the IPEDS key holder and manage processes to provide data to other government agencies as required by law.
  • Supervise, compile, and report data needed for grant initiatives.
  • Create and maintain a dashboard of essential institution-wide metrics.
  • Support enrollment evaluation and forecasting.
  • Create an annual institutional assessment report.
  • Support evaluation of overall institutional effectiveness.
  • Provide analysis of required data for academic program reviews.ad
  • Shape and compile data for ad hoc reporting, as needed, to individual College departments.
  • Review, finalize, and approve reports and other work products submitted by the unit.

Collaboration - 20%

  • Serve on Strategic Planning and Institutional Assessment Committee.

  • Serve on Banner Users Group.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology to establish and maintain a system of data oversight focused on data integrity.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Excellent analytical, project management, communication, problem solving, quantitative, and organizational skills
  • Proven expertise in data analysis, structured query writing, and business process evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present complex ideas, technical information, and data analysis to a variety of audiences
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Access and Excel, and relational database management systems; knowledge of SCT Banner preferred; knowledge of SQL helpful
  • Ability to use generally accepted applications in research design, analysis, and reporting
  • Proficiency in reporting statistical data and in research design
  • Commitment to confidentiality, quality, and accuracy
  • Written and oral communication skills sufficient to develop reports summarizing results of data research/studies and effectively communicate data results to various constituencies in written and/or verbal delivery
  • Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner
  • Ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing, demonstrate effective listening skills, and display respect for and openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts
  • Ability to accept changes to job requirements, policies, workload, etc., as well as learn new methods, procedures, or techniques resulting from change with the ability to clearly approach problems and find solutions
  • Demonstrates support for the College’s goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally aware community and practicing anti-racist/biased behaviors
  • Primarily on-site work is required

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Two or more years of experience in data acquisition, analysis, reporting, and support, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Proven leadership and systems skills experience appropriate to the position

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience with SCT Banner
