The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated regional academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states.

The mission of the Veterinary Hospital is three-fold:
  1. Compassionate, state-of-the-art specialty healthcare
  2. Expert clinical instruction for 4th year veterinary students from the College of Veterinary Medicine
  3. Ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine

With over seventeen clinical services staffed by board certified specialists, many of whom are not only nationally but also internationally renowned, the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 35,000 patients are treated in the VH. The VH provides compassionate care, state-of-the-art specialty health care, expert clinical instruction for 4th-year veterinary students from the College of Veterinary Medicine, specialty training for veterinary pharmacy residents and pharmacy technology students, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine.

Essential Job Duties

The Pharmacy Technician will provide pharmaceutical care for patients in the Veterinary Hospital (VH).

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting with prescription processing and compounding
  • Providing pharmaceutical care for outside prescriptions
  • Keeping pharmaceuticals stocked in various protected areas of the hospital for in-house treatment of patients
  • Serving as a preceptor for pharmacy technology students rotating from the Wake Technical Community College program

Other Responsibilities

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience/Education

Completion of an accredited nine-month Pharmacy Technician program; or high school diploma or equivalency and one year of pharmacy-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Some positions may require certification as a Pharmacy Technician.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Basic drug information knowledge base.
  • Basic pharmacy technician skills (prescription processing, compounding, customer service.)
  • Basic computer skills, Microsoft office knowledge (or similar software).
