Join us at APL, where your skills will contribute to groundbreaking projects and where every team member is a key player in our success. You will support Information System Security Management and oversight of our Highly Classified information systems in support of Sponsor/Program needs.

 

You 'll join an impressive team of technical specialists who are motivated by one common goal. We are passionate about supporting our Program needs. You 'll be an active contributor to the safeguarding of all APL 's Sponsor network systems and enable their support to our sponsors.

 

With your help, we will provide information assurance, system administration, and systems engineering for mainly Linux-based systems and other technologies in multiple highly classified facilities. You 'll independently identify and solve technical issues relating to Information Assurance system hardening (ensuring system availability, integrity, authentication and confidentiality).

 

As a Linux Systems Administrator you will...

  • Be responsible for the comprehensive management and maintenance of Linux-based systems being pivotal in configuring, troubleshooting, and optimizing those sytems, ensuring they meet our high standards and align with our organizational goals
  • Manage and maintain Linux systems in highly classified facilities, ensuring system security and reliability.
  • Participate in technical engineering and systems planning identifying technical solutions that meet our customer’s needs.
  • Implement and be responsible for Linux system configurations, installations, and routine maintenance in both stand-alone and networked environments.
  • Develop and implement solutions for sophisticated network (LAN and WAN) environments.
  • Apply security configurations and compliance measures to Linux systems as per classified security requirements.
  • Run system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
  • Proactively identify and resolve complex system software and hardware issues.
  • Contribute to security documentation such as configuration guides, security CONOPS, Security Controls Traceability Matrices, and System Security Plans.
  • Engage in continuous improvement of cybersecurity policies and practices.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to ensure the security and efficiency of Linux-based systems.
  • Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
  • Plan, implement, and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Certificate in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Profound knowledge and hands-on experience in Linux system administration, including security configurations and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with network architectures and related security principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage complex system configurations.
  • Experience applying STIGS and security configurations to systems.
  • Comprehensive expertise in system management tools ensuring robust and secure network and identity configurations.
  • Proficient in a variety of software and security solutions such as Apache/Tomcat, Splunk, Syslog-ng, Puppet Enterprise, Ansible, and GitLab, demonstrating strong capabilities in web services, data analytics, automated system management, and version control.
  • Experienced in advanced security and network optimization tools including showcasing a deep understanding of vulnerability assessment, secure password management, and network planning.
  • Superb communication skills, capable of collaborating with technical and management teams.
  • Have a DoD 8570/8140 certification (Security+ or CISSP).
  • Active Top Secret security clearance, with the potential to obtain TS/SCI level clearance. U.S. citizenship is a requirement.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Knowledge of additional system administration areas, such as SAN or NetApp.
  • Experience manually building physical systems.
  • Experience in endpoint protection and managed switch configurations.
  • Some practical experience with programming / scripting languages.
  • Working familiarity with Director of Central Intelligence Directives (DCID) or Intelligence Community Directives (ICD) security requirements.
