The WHI Life and Longevity After Cancer (LILAC) Study was funded by the National Cancer Institute. The goal of this study is to enroll WHI participants diagnosed with cancer into a survivorship cohort and examine factors that may affect life and longevity among women who have been diagnosed with cancer. To accomplish this, we will enroll women to participate in an annual questionnaire about health conditions and well-being, set up a biorepository of tumor tissue, and collect data from medical records to learn about cancer treatments and cancer recurrences.

The Data Coordinator III works independently and in collaboration with other outcomes operational staff to assist in accomplishing the study goals described above. The primary focus of the position is to collect and review medical records to ascertain details about cancer diagnosis, treatment, and subsequent outcomes, ensure uniform interpretation of specialized data, abstracting, reporting and quality control.

Responsibilities:

May perform all or some of the following responsibilities:
  • Abstract cancer treatment details from medical records for study participants
  • Request medical records from medical facilities to ascertain missing cancer treatment details
  • Review medical records for accuracy and completeness; re-contact medical facilities if follow-up is needed for missing or incomplete records
  • Code data according to specific guidelines and data enter abstraction details into study database
  • Attend scheduled meetings to remain apprised of updates and procedural changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of experience in medical records, cancer registry, or related field.
  • A strong understanding of cancer medical terminology
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision, and also as part of a team
  • Detail oriented and highly motivated self-directed professional
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to balance competing and shifting priorities
  • Demonstrate computer skills with proficiency in a variety of software packages
 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • An understanding of cancer progression and treatment

The hourly pay range for this position is from $28.34 to $40.35 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
