Job Description
Job Summary: The Human Resources Business Partner serves as a strategic partner to colleges, major Divisions or to a group of smaller units as appropriate. Provides HR and employment counsel to divisional, unit, and department leaders. In partnership with and under leadership of UA’s Human Resources, works to ensure compliance with human resources and/or university policies, procedures, practices as well as federal and state regulations, and ensures consistency in the application of policies throughout the college, division or units served.
Additional Department Summary: The HRBP serves as the primary point of contact for all HR related matters for the HRBP’s assigned colleges, divisions, and/or units, and collaborates with human resources professionals in the HR Centers of Excellence and HR Service Center to ensure sound application of HR principles and practices. Serves as a strategic partner for unit leadership, proposing and executing human resources' initiatives that support the strategic priorities of the college/division in the areas of classification, compensation, recruiting, hiring and onboarding, rewards and recognition, professional development, performance management and employee relations, engagement and culture, and workforce and strategic planning.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of professional level human resources experience in two (2) or more human resource functional areas: benefits, compensation, employee relations, recruitment, or training; OR Master's degree and two (2) years of professional level of human resources experience in two (2) or more human resource functional areas: benefits, compensation, employee relations, recruitment, or training.
Skills and Knowledge: Proficient working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment and government compliance regulations. Ability to recognize problems and issues and then propose and implement effective solutions informed by judgment that is consistent with organizational policies, practices, and standards while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations. Ability to adapt successfully to changing situations and environments while dealing with shifting priorities, assignments, and workloads. Ability to persist positively in the face of unexpected difficulties. Proven ability to build and maintain effective and constructive relationships. Demonstrates honesty and integrity in dealing with people. Works cooperatively with others toward common objectives, demonstrates respect for the ideas and contributions of other team members, cultivates positive relationships with other associates, and provides guidance and support to others. Ability to objectively and professionally coach employees and management through complex, confidential and difficult employee issues. High attention to detail, as well as strong organizational and time management skills, are critical. Strong writing abilities in employee and management communications as well as policy development. Engages in a continuous process of self-development, identifying and addressing learning and development needs to enhance own performance. Computer proficiency required to include Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications: Human resources experience in a higher education environment. Experience working in an environment similar to the assigned unit. HR certification.
