Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) – a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) under the UMD Vice President of Research (VPR). ARLIS seeks to hire a Development Integration Engineer to be responsible for ensuring the seamless and proper integration of software components, modules, and subsystems developed by different teams into a cohesive application. The role requires a deep understanding of software development practices, as well as expertise in integrating software components using various technologies and tools. The Development Integration Engineer is expected to collaborate with developers, project managers, and quality assurance teams to ensure that the software development process runs smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving and communication skills, as well as a passion for developing and maintaining high-quality software systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with software development teams to ensure that software components are designed with integration in mind
  • Develop and maintain software integration plans and strategies
  • Configure and deploy software components into development, testing, and production environments
  • Ensure that software components are adequately tested and verified prior to integration
  • Implement continuous integration and deployment processes to ensure the efficient and timely integration of software components into larger software systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any integration-related issues that arise during development or testing
  • Monitor and maintain the performance of integrated systems, making improvements as necessary
  • Collaborate with support teams to ensure that integrated systems are adequately supported
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to software integration processes and procedures
  • Provide guidance and support to development teams on integration best practices and standards

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field

Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in software development or software integration engineering
  • Experience with software integration technologies, such as REST APIs, microservices, and messaging systems

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Strong understanding of software development practices, including Agile methodologies
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Bash
  • Familiarity with ization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools
  • Familiarity with issue and project track tools
  • Familiarity with SQL and database management systems such as MySQL or Postgresql
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is a plus
