The Physics Department provides: (1) High quality Physics instruction to the University community through gateway courses in introductory physics; (2) educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in physics through high quality curricula, faculty, and research facilities; (3) outreach programs that advance scientific knowledge. Our research programs cover a diverse spectrum including astrophysics, general relativity, condensed matter theory and experiment, computational physics, biophysics, nanoscale science, physics education, experimental nuclear physics, particle and nuclear theory, experimental optics, and experimental atomic and molecular physics. The department enrolls approximately 120 graduate students and 140 undergrad physics majors. The department size is approximately 56 faculty members. Essential Job Duties
The Director of Strategic Education Partnerships will work closely with the Carbon Electronics cluster (leader, officers, and members) and related scientific communities to develop and implement strategic plans that result in building fully integrated, convergent education and technology partnerships with STEM businesses, the full K-12 through graduate school education pipeline, and across graduate programs at NCSU and its partners. This individual will have an entrepreneurial mindset and be responsible for forming and expanding partnerships to develop new initiatives, create innovative programming, maintain long-term relationships, and build sustained funding. The Director will also help COS faculty to manage their grants and research projects.
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Researching, identifying, and creating a partner prospecting plan to grow the range and size of strategic partnerships for the Carbon Electronics cluster with internal and external key stakeholders (academic, industry, research, nonprofit, government) tied to critical and emerging research, industry, and education opportunities.
- Leading the ideation, preparation, and delivery of tactical updates that are important to the Carbon Electronics cluster and other priority partners.
- Guiding, executing, and tracking successful financial transactions and human resource capital, including structuring partnerships, building strong and diverse funding, and managing projects.
- A subset of these managing efforts are directed toward the support of COS faculty
- Providing vision and leadership for the operating effectiveness of the Carbon Electronics cluster
- Working as Communications Director to prepare marketing materials reflecting the Carbon Electronics cluster value proposition, proprietary point of difference, and value to strategic partners and prospects.
- Planning and executing workshops and professional series relevant to the faculty and students within the Carbon Cluster as well as for outside partners
- The anticipated time division for education partnerships: project and faculty management is 60%:40%.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s in Education, Sciences, or Engineering
- Minimum of 5 – 10+ years of experience
